Anivia and big beefy Braum.

Our Anivia Control deck list guide features the best Legends of Runeterra deck list for the Season of Fortune (July 2020). Our Anivia Control guide also contains Mulligan advice, card combos and strategy tips.

If you’re looking for a rundown of the best decks Legends of Runeterra has to offer, check out our Legends of Runeterra Best Decks page!

Anivia Control is the most classic control deck you could possibly want in Legends of Runeterra. You have removal, stalling tools, and grindy endings to matches that’ll tempt your opponent to hit that Surrender button.

You want to get your champions on board as much as possible. Braum is great early on, despite his increase in mana cost, and can both block enemies, kill fragile ones off, and summon a Mighty Poro the first time he’s hit.

Here’s the latest version of the Anivia Control deck, and we’ll keep you posted as the metagame develops.

Shadow Isles Freljord
3 x Hapless Aristocrat 3 x Avarosan Sentry
3 x Glimpse Beyond 3 x Kindly Tavernkeeper
3 x Vile Feast 3 x Braum
3 x Withering Wail 3 x Avalanche
2 x The Rekindler 3 x Fury of the North
3 x Vengeance 3 x Anivia
3 x The Harrowing
2 x The Ruination

General strategy

Keep your Nexus health protected. That’s the main thing you have to watch out for with Anivia Control – if you can survive until the late game you’ll have a whole lot of good stuff to play with.

Early game: For the start of the game, keep hold of your cheap units, especially if you think you’re up against aggro. The Hapless Aristocrats and Avarosan Sentry will be vital for blocking and chip damage, even in control vs control matchups. Take out 1-health enemies with Vile Feast too, and if your units are about to die feel free to take advantage of that situation with Glimpse Beyond. You want to be drawing as much as possible.

Mid Game: If you get a Braum in hand and can play him, do so if you have the chance. The first hit he takes, he’ll summon a Mighty Poro, and every subsequent hit will take you closer to a levelled up Braum. If the enemy doesn’t have an answer, this can single-handedly win a matchup, but even if not you have other plans. Keep the enemy board as clear as possible with the likes of Withering Wail and Avalanche, and don’t worry too much about your own units. As long as the enemy isn’t killing you, things are going great.

Late Game: This is where you get really powerful. Anivia, if you haven’t played a copy yet, deals constant damage to the enemy Nexus and board, and if you reach 10 mana she deals twice the amount and respawns every turn after dying. Even if the enemy takes out Eggnivia and kills her off properly, The Rekindler and The Harrowing brings extra copies back. If The Harrowing gives you an Anivia and it dies thanks to Ephemeral, it’ll come back to life at the beginning of the next turn anyway – this deck can really snowball in the late-game. Of course, don’t get greedy, you should have time to get it all done. Use your hard removal like Vengeance or even The Ruination to finish off any remaining enemy threats, and you should be good to go from there.

These are the cards you’ll want to make the best possible start with Anivia Control:

  • 1. Hapless Aristocrat is two blocks in one – potentially helping you survive for much longer than you otherwise would have.
  • 2. Avarosan Sentry is a nice bit of block fodder as well as deck cycling – there’s no real downside to keeping him early on.
  • 3. Vile Feast can take out small early minions from the enemy board, as well as summon tokens to help you defend yourself.

Anivia Control tips, combos and synergies

Here’s a quick overview of a few things you might want to watch out for when you’re playing this deck.

Anivia does not respawn from Eggnivia unless you’re Enlightened, meaning you have 10+ mana (basically, turn 10).

The Rekindler resummons your Strongest dead champion, which will be Anivia unless you haven’t had an Anivia die yet.

Kindly Tavernkeeper is usually best used to heal up your Nexus.

Vengeance kills an enemy regardless of their health, but be careful of enemy mana availability – they may have disruptive spells like Deny ready to cast.

The Ruination can actually be cast as early as turn 6 if you bank your Spell Mana – this has saved us a number of times with a big board clear.

Withering Wail not only deals 1 to all enemy units, it’ll also heal your Nexus by 3, so try to maximise its utility by getting both a hit off and healing. Try using your tokens generated by Vile Feast or Hapless Aristocrat to whittle their units down to 1.

Fury of the North is a great card for survival – using it when your foe is trying to kill off your Braum with damage can make a huge difference, both keeping Braum standing and getting him closer to levelling up.
