Best team comps and builds – Control – August 2016 – Overwatch
How to build a solid starting team for Ilios, LijiangTower and Nepal.
If you’ve had just about enough of teaming up with random players in Overwatch – and you’re starting to get a bit more serious about your winrate – it might be time to look into teaming up with friends and collectively choosing a solid starting line-up of Heroes. For this reason, we thought it would be useful to pull together all of the latest competitive information indicating which Heroes are most commonly picked by the professionals. Only your own skill level will determine how successful you actually are, of course, but we can at least point you in the right direction!
As we always say when compiling these overviews, there is one ridiculously important caveat that needs to be added every time we try to lock down Heroes that we think you should be playing. The team builds in this article are all good starting points – and have been proven to be extremely effective by the pros – but you absolutely must adapt to the enemy team composition that you’re actually facing on any given map.
Why? Well, these will be the kind of default team builds that many players will turn to in the early days of the Overwatch metagame, given the relative strengths of the overall roster of Heroes. At this point, you can expect the opposition to start hard countering these standard builds pretty quickly, so you need to be able to react in kind. We don’t doubt also that there will be some outrageously original and devastatingly effective team builds that come to dominate the meta in time.
Once that happens, there’ll be equally imaginative counters created to deal with the latest and greatest threats – such is the ebb and flow of the metagame. In order to help you stay on top of these changes, we’ll be updating the site constantly with all of the latest fun new strategies to hit Overwatch, along with advice for countering them. You can help us a great deal with that by letting us know in the comments of any powerful builds you’ve seen in the wild.
The short version, then, is that we can give you a good starting point, but it’s important to stress that the team that adapts to the threat on the other side of the map will always gain a huge advantage – all things being equal in terms of player skill, of course. With that said, here are some tried and tested team builds that should get you off to a pretty solid started on Overwatch’s maps. Stay tuned for regular updates!

PSA: On the basis of you generally wanting to select one Tank, one Support and three Offense/Defense Heroes, we have included some flexibility in your picks – hence the large number of Hero options for certain maps!
