Sniper Rifles aren’t a common thing to come across in Blackout, so grabbing one’s always an exciting experience. You’ve got the ability to land devastating shots from afar, and drop opponents with one well placed bullet to the head. That’s if you’ve got the aim and trigger discipline to do so, of course!
We’re certainly guilty of whiffing our fair share of shots. Lining it up, pulling the trigger, watching as the bullet whistles just past the target – urgh. If you don’t make a concerted effort to improve your skills in this area of the game then it’ll become a frustrating part of the experience.
Sniping is difficult in almost every shooter and it’s no different in Call of Duty: Blackout. Shots are also subject to bullet drop and will leave you vulnerable if caught out in the open, leaving you scrambling to recover in a much closer encounter than you’d have hoped for.
To help you get to grips with sniper rifles in Blackout, we’ve put together a number of tips and tricks that’ll help improve your accuracy and positioning. We hope that once you’ve read this you’ll come away with at least a little more confidence in your sniping skills.
Sniper Tips and Tricks
Below we’ve put together a list of helpful tips that’ll hopefully aid you in your quest for sniping greatness.
Do make sure that you go ahead and practice as much as possible too, and forget about winning when you do so. Be confident in taking shots and focus on improving every time – this way you’ll get better, faster.
- Make sure you’re taking into account bullet drop before you pull the trigger. Bullets from all weapons in the game are affected by distance travelled. This means you have to adjust your aim to take into account bullet drop over time, depending on how far away your enemy is. If they’re further away, you’ll need to aim your reticule a little higher up so the bullet will curve downwards and land on target. Finally, if they’re running in a straight line, you’ve got to “lead” your bullet (aim ahead) to take into account how long the bullet has to travel to reach its destination.
- The good news is that Blackout’s bullet drop isn’t as severe as Fortnite or PUBG if you’ve played either of these Battle Royale games. On the flip-side, you’re going to have to relearn the feel of things if you’re coming from either of those games.
- If you think you’ve judged the bullet drop correctly and you miss, try and avoid replicating the same shot. Instead, try something new and adjust your aim otherwise it’s highly likely you’ll miss again!

- Think about positioning. It’s essential that you’re not lining up your shots out in the open unless you can afford to do so. Before taking a shot, ensure that you’ve given yourself the best possible positional advantage over your opponent.
- It may seem obvious, but do try and go for headshots if you’ve got the chance. They deal huge amounts of bonus damage and clocking a clean kill is extremely important. Otherwise you leave yourself vulnerable to a counter-attack, and having given your position awawy in a pretty dramatic fashion.
- Remember that both sniper rifles currently in the game are bolt-action, so take your time before going for each shot. Miss one and you’ll need to take a second or two to slot a bullet in the chamber.
- Whenever you’re engaged in a long range face-off, make sure you’re not being too predictable. Keep on the move, bait out shots and try and anticipate when they’ll be poking their head out to take your shot.
- We’ve found the Paladin sniper rifle to be your best bet out of the two currently in the game. It’s extremely powerful and has fantastic handling, and is the best option for learning the ropes.
