Dota 2 Bucharest Major 2018 Format
There are two stages to the Bucharest Major. Here’s the lowdown on how each one works:
Bucharest Major Group Stage
The first part of the event sees players competing against one another to determine the eight best teams that will advance to the second stage.
- The sixteen teams will first of all play in a 5-round Swiss format.
- Each match is played as a best-of-one affair, before the next round gets under way.
- The eight best-performing teams will move on to the Playoffs (detailed below).
Bucharest Major Playoff Stage
Once the top eight teams have been determined in the group stages, the competition moves into the playoff stage. Here’s how that works:
- For the playoff stages, teams are first of all seeded into a single-elimination bracket.
- The matches are then played in a best-of-three format, with the exception of the final which is best-of-five.
The fine details of how teams are seeded and scored is rather tricky to quickly articulate, but there’s an excellent guide to the nitty-gritty of it all over on Liquipedia.
Just be mindful that there are quite a few spoilers towards the bottom of that page, so careful scrolling if you’re looking to catch-up on any matches you’ve missed.
