Fortnite Winter Royale announced by Epic Games
The next big-ticket tournament for Fortnite kicks off this Saturday.
Epic Games has just announced the Fortnite Winter Royale tournament, following the hugely popular Summer and Fall Skirmish series that have taken place over the last few months.
Things are a little bit different this time around, however. For the first time, Epic Games will be making use of the recently-released in-game tournament system for its flagship competition.
The way it works is pretty simple, and the tournament is separated into two distinct phases.
First up is the Winter Royale Qualifiers, which any player will be able to get involved in. There’ll be a series of events you can sign up for using the game client, and your best score in any of these events will determine your eligibility for the second phase of the tournament.
That second phase comes in the form of the Winter Royale Finals. Once scores have been verified, the best players will be invited to participate in this final stage of the competition, where $1,000,000 of prize money will be up for grabs.

These finals will be separated further across two different regions: one for North America, and the other for European competitors. Further regions will be supported in future tournaments.
Here are the important dates that you need to be aware of:
- Winter Royale Qualifier (Open): 24th-25th November 2018
- Europe Winter Royale Finals: 30th November – 1st December 2018
- North America Winter Royale Finals: 11th – 12th December 2018
Further details of the Winter Royale will be released via Fortnite’s in-game Events system in due course.
