Fortnite’s Glider Re-Deploy removed from default modes with Patch 6.3.0
Enhanced mobility now restricted to the game's more experimental modes.
The Glider Re-Deploy function has been removed from Fortnite’s default game modes with the launch of this morning’s Patch 6.3.0. It will remain available for continued testing in Playground and modes such as Disco Domination, however.
The feature has proved contentious among players in recent weeks. As the name suggests, Glider Re-Deploy allows players to make use of their glider whenever they leap from sufficient height – and not just during the initial plummet from the bus at the start of each game.
Despite the extra – very fun – mobility afforded by the feature, many in the community felt that it upset the balance of the game to an unwelcome degree, and so it will now no longer be available in the standard Solo, Duos and Squads playlists.
In a brief blog post, the developers explained that they felt they “did not live up to expectations of quickly iterating on the mechanic and communicating plans.”
We’ll have to wait and see whether or not the feature returns to the broader Fortnite experience at some point in the future. It’s possible we’ll see some tweaks to its functionality, based on further testing in other areas of the game.
