Gang Up Rogue deck list guide – February 2017 (Standard) – Hearthstone

0

Our essential guide to playing Gang Up Rogue in Season 35.

Gang Up Rogue is a Hearthstone deck archetype that plays out in a very similar fashion to the typical Jade Golem Rogue we’ve covered in the past, but it makes room for cards which duplicate or otherwise enhance the Golem-summoning process. For those unfamiliar with both deck types, the first Jade Golem summoned onto the board has a meagre 1/1 stats, but subsequent copies of it gain an additional point of each stat on a rolling basis: 2/2, 3/3 and so on.

That’s the basics of the Jade Golem mechanic, then, but this particular version of the deck is enhanced by cards like Gang Up, Unearthed Raptor and even the Old God himself N’Zoth, the Corruptor. Given a little bit of luck with the flow of cards in the early and mid stages of the game, it’s possible to create a snowballing board presence that the opponent will find impossible to counter.

In our Gang Up Rogue we’ve first of all got a snapshot of a pretty solid deck list for you, although keep in mind that it’s very early days for some of the cards involved, and the exact shape of the deck is likely to change in the months ahead. After that we’ll explain how to Mulligan your opening hand, then finish things off by going through all of the combos that actually give the decks its strength.

If you’re playing a different version of the deck, let us know about the changes you’ve made in the comments so we can have a play around with it ourselves!

Editor’s note – February Update: There’s an argument that says if you must play Gang Up Rogue in Season 35, then you should be using the Pirate-infused version that’s doing the rounds. Neither is particularly powerful right now, however, and so really you’re best off playing the version you’re most familiar with. In our case, that means sticking with the N’zoth list for now.

Gang Up Rogue (Standard) Mulligan guide – February 2017

Backstab is always a good keep in an uncertain metagame. Then you have early minions like Mistress of Mixtures, Jade Swarmer and Loot Hoarder which are all solid early-game plays.

Just try to plan out a solid first few turns with the options available, and don’t be afraid to have to dagger up on Turn 2 – Rogue is one of the few heroes who can get Hero Power value this early on.

Gang Up Rogue (Standard) combos and synergies – February 2017

Make sure you brush up on all of the combos contained in this deck before taking it to the ladde – there’s a few bit to think about with all the new Gadgetzan cards, after all.

– The first Jade Golem you summon is a 1/1, the second is a 2/2, the third is a 3/3 and so on. The following cards all interact with these creatures in some way: Aya Blackpaw, Jade Spirit, Jade Swarmer, Jade Shuriken.

– There are plenty of other good targets for Shadowcaster to hit, but in particular you’d like to pinch back one of your Jade Golem-related cards for even greater summoning value going forwards.

– You should try to gain the Battlecry effect of Unearthed Raptor whenever possible, but don’t be afraid to play it as a vanilla minion if you’ve no other play. It’ll happen sometimes, and you can’t afford to let the board get away from you!

– Your Battlecry effects will actually go off twice if Brann Bronzebeard is active on the game board.

Azure Drake and Bloodmage Thalnos both increase the power of your spell damage cards: Fan of Knives, Backstab, Eviscerate.

– Every expired minion in this deck with a Deathrattle effect will be summoned back onto the board by N’Zoth, the Corruptor when you play him. Note that the minion in question must have actually died – not been transformed or silenced – for it to come back to the board.
