Despite being more than five years old at this point, GTA 5 continues to sell by the absolute bucketload. As with previous games in the series, in the latest game there’s a generous collection of GTA 5 cheats and GTA 5 cheat codes to muck around with as well.
In this article we’ve pulled together a complete guide on how to actually use those cheats, whether you’re playing on the Xbox, PS4 or PC platforms. We’ve also got a breakdown of every cheat code itself, so you can dip in and start messing around with whatever chaos takes your fancy.
First up though, here’s a quick explanation of how to actually use cheats in GTA 5:
- You can enter cheats using the controller, just as you’ve been able to in previous GTA games.
- Alternatively, you can access your in-game mobile phone and enter the cheats through this device, rather than mashing around with the controller.
- If you’re playing on the PC platform, however, you get a third option as well. Just open up the command console and type in the code there if you want to quickly make a change to the game.
Entering cheats in GTA 5
- On the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions of GTA 5, either use the button sequences outlined further down the page, or press up on your controller to activate your mobile phone.
- With a controller on PC, follow the same instructions as for consoles. With a keyboard, press the tilde button to the left of your 1 key to open the command console.
There are a few important things to keep in mind before you turn on a cheat in GTA 5. The moment you do so you’ll be locked out from progressing through the Trophy or Achievement system, depending on the platform you’re playing on.
You’ll also be prevented from achieving anything higher than Bronze on the missions you play, and until you next boot up the game with cheats deactivated. You also can’t make use of any of these cheats while you’re getting stuck into GTA Online – that would just be crazy…

GTA 5 Cheats: PC Cheat Codes
Remember, if you’re using an Xbox 360 or Xbone one controller to enter cheats on the PC version of GTA 5, you can either press up to access the in-game phone or enter the button sequences.
If you’re sticking to keyboard and mouse, you can press the tilde button to the left of your 1 key to pop open the command console and get stuck in that way.
