How to get started with the explosive Priest deck.
The Blackrock Mountain Adventure didn’t bring much to the table for the poor old Priest, but that doesn’t mean it’s not possible to shine well with the Hero on the ladder. We had some ridiculously good fun trying out Mech Priest last month, for example, and Control Priest still – in skilled hands – has its place in any metagame.
How about something a little more explosively fun for this month, though? For our next deck spotlight, we’re taking a closer look at the Lightbomb Priest. It’s not a new deck by any means, but it’s one that’s passed us by until now, and so here’s what you need to know about getting started with it.
Zetalot’s Lightbomb Priest strategy guide
In the first few turns, you want to establish your early-game presence using cards like Deathlord, Zombie Chow and Injured Blademaster. These cards – combined with your Health-refreshing Hero Power – can then make excellent trades against your opponent’s own early minions. Once you’ve assumed control of the board, it’s cards like Velen’s Chosen and Power Word: Shield that will keep your minions alive, and allow you to keep developing your side of the board even further.
As for control and removal options, you’ve got it all here. Lightbombs can make light work of the enemy minions in front of you, while Auchenai Soulpriest and Circle of Healing can be devastating. Just try to remember that it affects your own minions as well, eh?
Zetalot’s Lightbomb Priest Mulligan guide
In just about every scenario, cards like Northshire Cleric, Zombie Chow, Deathlord, Wild Pyromancer and Injured Blademaster are fantastic. Keep a buff if you’ve turns one and two covered.
Apart from that, pay attention to what your opponents are playing in the first few turns in your specific metagame, and adjust your approach accordingly. We can get you started with a deck, but you must adapt your playstyle to deal with the opponent’s you’re facing most often.
Zetalot’s Lightbomb Priest card combos and synergies
If it’s been a while since you played a Priest, there are a few more combos to consider than you might be used to. Here’s what you need to know about weaving the cards together for maximum effect:
– Auchenai Soulpriest with Circle of Healing is your major area-of-effect board clear, but remember it damages your own minions too!
– Circle of Healing or Holy Nova played with Northshire Cleric and a few injured minions on the board can fill your hand back up very nicely indeed.
– All spells trigger Wild Pyromancer‘s special effect, but note that the single point of damage is applied after the negative or positive effects of the spell have been put into play.
Velen’s Chosen is great for boosting up the spellpower of every tool in your arsenal. Use it wisely when factoring healing and damage effects into your play.
Many of your minions survive the effects of Lightbomb, so trade very carefully and efficiently before setting this explosive spell off.
