Jeff Kaplan explains the disappearance of ‘Rate This Match’ on the PTR – Overwatch

They didn't learn enough from the feature.

In Overwatch’s latest PTR patch, the ‘Rate This Match’ feature has been completely removed.

On the live servers right now, it’s a rating bar that appears in the post match screens. Simply put, it’s a row of three circles and you are encouraged to highlight the one that best reflects your thoughts on the match.

Jeff Kaplan explained its disappearance in response to a user on the Overwatch forums,

“We had high hopes for this feature but after a year of the game being live and an extended period in beta, all we learned from the feature was: New players used the Rate This Match feature more than existing players, players enjoy winning and players do not enjoy losing.”

“We want to reduce as much clutter in the UI as possible and seeing as we were not getting tremendous results from the feature, we decided to remove it.”

He went on to outline their initial hopes for the feature in another brief post:

“We were hoping that we could correlate match enjoyment with other data over a prolonged period of time. For example, did people enjoy matches more or less after we instituted the 1-hero limit, or after we rebalanced a certain hero or added a new feature? But ultimately no meaningful analysis came out of the feature beyond what I listed earlier in this post.”

Although this iteration didn’t work out in the end, we hope that they reinstate a clearer feedback system in-game in the future.
