Jeff Kaplan explains why the game doesn’t have a ‘crappy 15 hour campaign’ – Overwatch
Game Director ‘trips out’ when people suggest Overwatch would've been better with a single-player campaign.
Game director Jeff Kaplan has shared his thoughts on why Overwatch doesn’t include a single-player campaign, stating that Blizzard has never lied to players: Overwatch is a PvP shooter – it’s for people that like PvP shooters.
“There’s these games that have amazing single player, but kinda have this phoned in multiplayer – or the opposite. Amazing multiplayer, but have that campaign thing that none of us quite did,” Kaplan said in a video interview with screenPLAY.
Kaplan doesn’t agree with people who suggest Overwatch would have been a better overall experience had it shipped with a single-player campaign. In his mind Blizzard set out to make a great PvP shooter and never promised anything else.
“And I feel like none of those came for free. There were developers who could’ve dedicated themselves to the vision of the core product, and in our case we’ve always been one hundred percent truthful with our players. It’s a PvP team based shooter, like, if you love PvP this is the game for you. And I kind of trip out that people somehow think, “Well if it had that fifteen hours of crappy campaign, it would’ve been a better game””.
