Quest Priest deck list guide – Rastakhan – Hearthstone (December 2018)

0

Our updated guide to playing the Quest Priest archetype in the Rastakhan meta.

Our Quest Priest deck list guide features the best deck list for Season 65 of Hearthstone (August 2019). You can also find some general strategy advice and a breakdown of the deck’s key combos. We will continue to update the list to help you play the best possible Quest Priest list.

The new Priest Quest card brings with it both opportunities and challenges. Often, Priests end up healing a lot by accident, but in order to reliably succeed in getting the most out of Activate the Obelisk, you’ll need to put in a bit of extra legwork. It’s well worth it though, as you can see by its lofty ranking on our friends over at Rock Paper Shotgun’s list of the most fun Saviors of Uldum Quests!

This is the Quest Priest deck that’s seeing the most play in the meta at the moment. If you already have the Quest and High Priest Amet it’s a great one to try out, but be careful with crafting too many of the cards – it’s not exactly taking the Hearthstone world by storm.

Quest Priest deck list and strategy

General strategy

You’re looking to take hold from the mid to late game, ensuring your enemies don’t get too close to killing you. By virtue of being a control-style deck, you’re likely to have a lot of healing to do, so the Quest shouldn’t be a problem, and from there just keep resurrecting your minions and buffing them up.

Early Game: You don’t necessarily have to play the Quest on turn 1. Usually, there’ll be little need for other moves, but occasionally you can pull out a Forbidden Words if your opponent is really worrying you with an early drop. Usually though, your goal here is to play out the Quest and survive. Thankfully, this exact strategy directly benefits you in completing the Quest!

Healing your face with your Hero Power, or even cards like Divine Hymn, are plays you’ll need to make in order to survive, and sometimes you’ll even manage to heal up your minions at the same time. Your early minions are perfect for this, as Injured Tol’vir and Injured Blademaster damage themselves as their Battlecry, allowing you to heal them up for the Quest.

Mid Game: When you can, keep minions alive and on the board. Your Convincing Infiltrator forces your opponents to sacrifice minions, which is irritating for opponents to deal with and makes it a great card for tall boards. High Priest Amet combines with every minion in your deck to offer a huge amount of survivability, buffing their health total to equal his own. Start using Psychopomp to bring back your dead friends too – Injured Blademaster and Injured Tol’vir will come back completely unharmed if you do this.

Late Game: You’ve been whacking the enemy Hero’s health down this whole time, and simultaneously been healing up enough to complete the Quest (hopefully). Play out all the minions you can constantly – you’re trying to end the game now. Buff them every turn with your Hero Power as well.

A good finishing move occurs when you have Leeroy Jenkins and Vivid Nightmare in hand. Playing Leeroy and using your Hero Power on him gives you a 9 attack minion with Charge. Vivid Nightmare just gives you another, meaning you have a huge 18 burst damage from hand at the cost of only 2 cards (and 10 mana).

Mass Dispel is around for your Taunt-clearing needs, allowing you to finish the enemy off with the minions you have on board.

Quest Priest Mulligan Guide

You’ll want to keep minions that are playable early, as well as spells that’ll bring you back into the game.

1. Northshire Cleric: A 1 drop with early card draw, you’ll sometimes even play this before Activate the Obelisk.

2. Injured Tol’vir: Gives you the opportunity to heal up, as well as throw a tasty 2/3 Taunt minion on the board in the early game.

3. Power Word: Shield: Cycles your deck and gives the minions you have on board increased survivability, allowing them to take better trades.

Quest Priest tips, combos and synergies

In this version of Quest Priest, you’re looking to get on the front foot, but your Quest reward allows you to take the long game if necessary:

Injured Blademaster and Injured Tol’vir let you heal them up early, progressing your Quest. They are also able to be revived by Psychopomp without their Battlecries taking effect, giving them higher health to contest the board later on in the game.

– Be careful of transforming effects, like Polymorph or Plague of Murlocs. It’s hard to avoid them, but it’s best if your opponent uses them on your less important minions. You’d rather have a Wild Pyromancer transformed than your High Priest Amet.

Leeroy Jenkins represents a chunky 9 burst damage when buffed with Obelisk’s Eye. This can finish the game on its own, but if you need a bit extra, create a copy with Vivid Nightmare.

Sandhoof Waterbearer heals 5 to a random friendly character, meaning it can hit both your minions and face.

– Don’t forget: Obelisk’s Eye also heals for 3, acting as a straight upgrade over your normal Hero Power. Sometimes you’ll need to heal your face to survive, but it can heal and buff your minions at the same time. This means sometimes, Obelisk’s Eye will give a minion up to +3/+6 in stats including the healing.

Divine Hymn can fast-track your Quest to completion if you have a lot of damaged minions on board.
