Quest Warlock deck list guide – Saviors of Uldum – Hearthstone (November 2019)

0

Our primer guide to playing Quest Warlock in the Saviors of Uldum meta.

Our Quest Warlock deck list guide features the best Saviors of Uldum deck list for Season 68 of Hearthstone (November 2019). Our Quest Warlock guide will also be updated with Mulligan advice, card combos and strategy tips.

Quest Warlock is a Hearthstone deck archetype that has seen a bit of play over the last few months under the name Plot Twist Warlock, but unfortunately the power level of the deck hasn’t been particularly high. With the release of Saviors of Uldum though, players have been hoping for a new lease of life through the Quest: Supreme Archaeology.

We’ve got one of the most played Quest Warlock decks for you here, updated for the Saviors of Uldum expansion. It may see some changes over the coming weeks to be more viable or it may fade off into obscurity. Either way, be cautious with crafting too many expensive cards. If it asserts itself in the meta we’ll expand this guide with a whole load of extra advice.

UPDATE – November 2019

Still at the bottom of the Tier list, Quest Warlock has seen a bit of a surge in popularity since the reintroduction of Wild cards into Standard, especially the likes of Sylvanas Windrunner and N’Zoth, the Corruptor. This deck remains in the same place as always: a blast to play but far from meta.

General strategy

Quest Warlock is centred around the powerful reshuffle and redraw effect from Plot Twist, as well as the bonus you earn from completing the Supreme Archaeology Quest. The aim of the deck is to combine this with the many powerful shuffle and draw effects available to Warlock in order to generate some serious value, while playing a heavy Control game early on.

Early Game: First of all, you’ll want to play your Quest. As you’ll draw cards every turn, your first turn should involve getting the countdown started. Questing Explorer is a nice card to play early on too, as it activates the Quest’s countdown by one, whilst cycling into the more powerful cards in your deck. Keep the enemy’s board at bay with your Shadow Bolt and, if necessary, Impbalming. Do be careful in the early game or your opponent may just run away with the victory, so spend your removal resources wisely.

Mid Game: When you’ve got enough mana to do so, it might be time for a Plot Twist. If you can, play a Dollmaster Dorian into Plot Twist it’ll summon a board full of mini versions of all your big minions. You might even get yourself a Fel Lord Betrug copy, which means that all subsequent cards drawn benefit from his effect too, doubling up on potential Deathrattles.

Aranasi Broodmother should be healing you up a bit too, and don’t forget to use the Rush ability on whichever minions you can, as they’ll probably be desperate to clear the enemy away. Cards like Khartut Defender and Mechanical Whelp leave a body on the board after they die too, allowing for some decent presence once you’ve cleared the enemy. This swing might be enough to snowball and win, but don’t get too ahead of yourself and keep an eye out for any potential counters from your opponent.

Late Game: Your Quest should be just about finished now. Drawing 20 cards is a hell of a lot, but your Plot Twists accelerate this significantly. When they’re gone, you now have a new way of getting ahead of your opponent in the Hero Power: Tome of Origination. Your deck is chock-full of big minions, and reducing their costs to 0 mana offers a great deal of late-game potential. Play Arch-Villain Rafaam if you don’t see enough value in your existing deck too – he’ll change every card you have into a (hopefully) chunky Legendary minion. This includes the Worthless Imps you shuffled in through Impbalming as well. Start drawing these out each turn for 0 mana, and if you’ve made it this far in the game your opponent should be running out of ways to deal with you. Hope and pray for a few 0 mana Leeroy Jenkins and Grommash Hellscreams, or maybe a cheap as chips Reno the Relicologist for some board clearance.

In general, things should be easy enough from here. The variety of Legendaries you can generate is enormous, and you’ll need to be able to adapt your plays in whatever way your opponent’s game requires you to. 0 mana Legendaries should be able to get the job done, though.

Quest Warlock tips, combos and synergies

These are some of the main combos available to Quest Warlock. Memorising these will give you the best shot at victory when piloting the deck.

Augmented Elekk has obvious synergy with your shuffling spells, so you want to have this minion out in play before making any big shuffle moves if possible.

– Remember that the damage inflicted by Hellfire affects not only minions on both sides of the board, but both heroes as well.

– Note that Aranasi Broodmother‘s bonus effect – beyond Taunt – is to restore health when she’s drawn. Given the shuffling options you have, this will prove to be a very handy way of keeping your hero topped up.

– Once you’ve completed your Quest, you can start drawing cards with your upgraded Hero Power. It reduces their cost to 0, meaning you can play fully-statted versions of the minions you’ve been cheating out for free.

– If you fancy a gamble then Arch-Villain Rafaam can be one of the deck’s most thrilling cards as it replaces your entire hand and deck with Legendary minions. If you receive something good from this you can often storm into a huge lead.

Fel Lord Betrug has some powerful synergy with Plot Twist as it can summon any of the minions your draw directly onto the battlefield with Rush. They may die the same turn but it’s a good way to catch up when behind on the board, as well as triggering important Deathrattles like Mechanical Whelp.

Dollmaster Dorian’s 1/1 copies summoned might not seem like a lot, but the real value comes from the Deathrattle effects of cards summoned. Dr. Morrigan replaces herself with a minion from your deck upon death, which may end up helping you regain control of the game.

Impbalming’s Useless Imps may seem like a significant downside to playing the card as removal, but if needed you can use Arch-Villain Rafaam’s Battlecry to turn them into powerful Legendary minions.

– If you have an Augmented Elekk on board when you cast Plot Twist, the contents of your hand will be shuffled into your deck twice. This means that if you have your second Plot Twist in hand you gain an extra copy of the card in your deck for another use.
