Reach monthly milestones and then avoid falling below them.
We know the Hearthstone devs have been looking into possible changes for the ladder system over the last couple of years, and it looks as though we’re about to see a pretty important change arrive with the next patch.
According to an official post made on the official forums last night, milestones will shortly be added to Ranked Play, which will prevent you from falling below certain rank thresholds once you’ve achieved them. In Update 7.1, you’ll no longer be able to fall below Ranks 15, 10 or 5 once you’ve achieved them in any given season.
This should heopfully help you feel as though you’re making meaningful achievements on the monthly ladder climb, without the “ladder anxiety” which often goes hand in hand with trying to reach new heights.
The developers also hope that this will encourage more deck experimentation as well, with players feeling less obliged to stick to the most powerful overall deck.
It’s worth pointing out that this kind of system is actually already in the game, as you can’t fall out of the Legend bracket once you’ve achieved it, and you likewise can’t drop below Rank 20 where the newest players dwell.
We think it’s a pretty neat way of maintaining motivation throughout the month though, and it hopefully marks the start of a series of refinements for what’s becoming a rather tired format in the game.
