0

We'll walk you through how to play this tricky deck.

Our Rivershaper Fiora deck list guide features the best Legends of Runeterra deck list for the open beta (February 2020). Our Rivershaper Fiora guide also contains Mulligan advice, card combos and strategy tips.

If you’ve arrived at this deck wondering what it’s all about, well, put simply, it’s all about buffing up a single target (Rivershaper or other) while controlling the board with spells until you overwhelm them, or exhaust their resources.

Before we dive in, we wouldn’t recommend this deck for those just starting out in Legends of Runeterra. It’s one of those decks which requires careful consideration on every turn, as you’ll need to weigh up the impact of the spells you’re using, the spell mana you’re expending, and if your enemy has any potential counters. Despite being difficult to play, it’s great fun if you can make it work.

Below we’ll take you through the deck, and provide some strategy advice to help you get the most out of it.

Here’s the latest Rivershaper Fiora deck list for Legends of Runeterra’s open beta phase.

General strategy

The way your game will pan out is highly dependent on the units you’ll draw early, but as you play the deck more, you’ll quickly learn to identify which win condition route you’re going down, and how to get there. It’s going to require some head scratching, but get it right and you’ll have a whale of a time.

Early game: You don’t have any 1 or 2 mana units, so expect to take some damage early on. Soak it up and focus on playing out a 3 mana unit like Fiora, Rivershaper, or a Shadow Assassin if you need to draw. If possible, save your mana whenever you can, but depending on the unit you’ve played out, don’t be afraid to save them to keep some form of board presence.

Stand Alone is an ideal early play to buff your lone unit (especially good on Fiora) and can help you regain some pressure after an early beating. Be wary of using your Deny as you’ll want to save this for single target kill spells, or board clear combos, but the occasional early denial can be your ticket to ramping up far faster than the enemy expects.

Essentially, you’ll want to make one of three decisions early: Keep Fiora buffed up and killing units, buff your Elusive Kinkou Lifeblade to sneak through damage and lifesteal, or buff your Rivershaper to clear the board and draw spells.

Mid game: Once you’ve reached the midgame, you’ll need to be very careful with the spell mana you’re expending. Try your best to keep it topped up to maximise your spell usage, as you’ll need to do a lot of calculated blocking and attacking. Sometimes you’ll need to let the opponent hit you in order to save your unit and counterattack next round, if so, let it happen, and plan your next move wisely.

Laurent Bladekeeper is a nice, easy buff who’ll act as a useful blocker. Spirit’s Refuge, Riposte and Single Combat will be essential to keep your small number of units alive and can help you trade economically. If possible, use Spirit’s Refuge or Riposte before a Single Combat to maximise your play.

As things progress, keep looking to Stand Alone when possible and use the likes of Twin Disciplines to keep units healthy. Will of Ionia can help stall if the enemy’s board becomes a bit scary, and if timed right, can help you counter effectively.

Redoubled Valor on a buffed unit like Fiora can really swing things in your favour and force your opponent into throwing out a big spell. Best case scenario, you want to case this when you’re certain they can’t play any kill spells. To be totally safe, ensure you’ve got a Deny (and enough mana to cast this), and consider what they might have in hand.

Late game: If you’ve reached this point, hopefully you’ll have a Deny or two still in hand. Use these to dispel any last ditch efforts from your enemy. If you’ve got a buffed up unit, use Redoubled Valor to accelerate the win condition. If the enemy’s dropped a bucketload of pain on the board, blocking with your buffed unit and using Judgment can be a game changer.

Let’s not forget Karma. Play her out once you’ve reached 10 mana and you’ll get even more value off spells. Health Potion while she’s out on the board will give your Nexus a lovely 6 health top up for the low, low cost of 1 mana! Of course, all your other barriers and buffs will benefit too.

These are the cards you’ll want to make the best possible start with Rivershaper Fiora:

  • 1. Guaranteeing a Rivershaper can be key to drawing more spells early on.
  • 2. Drop a Stand Alone on your lone Rivershaper (or other unit) is pretty vital.
  • 3. Spot a Fiora, keep her in hand. Her win condition coupled with the spells you’ll draw can net you a surprisingly quick win if things go well. And it’ll force your enemy into dealing with her or face an imminent loss.
  • 4. If you’ve not received a Rivershaper or Fiora, make sure to keep a Shadow Assassin in hand as having a unit on the board as soon as you’ve hit 3 mana is key to survival. She’ll also help you draw, which could prove very useful!

Rivershaper Fiora tips, combos and synergies

Here’s a quick overview of a few things you might want to watch out for when you’re playing this deck.

If you want to see this deck in action, watch the video by Swim above!

– Be aware that if you’ve opted for the mega-buffed Rivershaper, you won’t be able to Overwhelm the opponent for big face damage. With this in mind, make sure you’re playing out minions or saving Judgment to block or clear a hefty enemy offense.

– If you’ve got an Enlightened Karma in hand and you’re playing out spells, make sure you’re not overdrawing – you don’t want to be burning valuable cards!

– Spirit’s Refuge on a beefy unit can give you a much needed health top up if things are looking a little hairy.

– We can’t stress this enough – make sure you save spell mana when you can. This way you’ll give yourself plenty of offensive or defensive options on your turn to keep the pressure on, or perform a surprise counter to throw off your opponent.

Will of Ionia can be a brilliant stall spell if the enemy has played out a particularly buffed up unit, or you simply need to survive one more round to counter with a perfect card combo.

– Know when to take damage. Sometimes you’ll need to let the enemy hit face to save mana or keep your units alive.

– Play Judgment with an Enlightened Karma and you’ll pull off an unbeatable clear.
