Launched in April 2017, the G413 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard from Logitech G received instant acclaim, both from the community and the press. Its minimalistic design combined with premium materials let the focus on performance to truly shine through, and it won awards in both the gaming and design spheres including a 2018 iF Design Award.
But where do you go from there? Sensibly, Logitech G are sticking with the ethos that made the original so successful: the new G513 is all about premium materials, pared-back design and full functionality. It’s just more advanced and customizable than ever.
The keyboard’s Romer-G switches are at the heart of the experience, and for the G513 you can spec either the Tactile or Linear versions. Both are 25 percent faster than standard mechanical switches, and quieter, too, but there’s a subtle difference between each.
Tactile switches actuate with a discernible bump, while Linear are completely smooth all the way down. It’s a personal choice. Actuation on both types is a tiny 1.5mm for super-fast control.
Each key features brilliant, full-spectrum RGB lighting (approximately 16.8m colors, if you’re counting) and negligible light leakage for the clearest possible display. Colors, lit/unlit keys and everything else can be customized, while profiles can be flipped instantly via F-key secondary functions. And with 26-key rollover, you’ll always get exactly the commands you asked for, no ghosting, no matter how many keys you’re pressing simultaneously. But that’s no longer all.
The G513 features the new LIGHTSYNC technology, debuted only recently in the innovative G560 sound-and-light 2.1 PC speaker system. This links the lighting to in-game events in real time, opening up a new world of feedback and reactive play. LIGHTSYNC is fully customizable with the free Logitech Gaming Software.
A large (detached) memory foam palmrest features a high-quality leatherette cover for support, and it’s waterproof and sweat resistant, so stays comfy even under intense use. But arguably it’s the G513’s slim chassis that draws the eye.
The aircraft-grade aluminum skeleton is brushed for a subtle premium look, and anodized for a hard-wearing finish that won’t degrade. It’s not just durable, it’s rigid too, providing a light, strong platform that holds the controls in a reliably firm grip. Underneath, six rubber feet keep the keyboard firmly planted and insulated from shock.
Sandwiched between you’ll find an integrated USB passthrough port, letting you plug in mice, flash drives, phones or anything else to enjoy full-power, full-speed USB 2.0 connectivity. Dedicated media keys make managing your music a snip, too.
Available in either the stealthy Carbon edition or high-impact Silver, the G513 takes the classic combination of high performance and strong value, and cranks it up even higher. The G513 is available now from Logitech G for $149.99 with free shipping included. Order one today before the opposition does.
