Temple of Anubis map guide – Overwatch

0

Our essential guide to dominating Overwatch's Temple of Anubis map.

The Temple of Anubis is an Overwatch map that can prove particularly tricky for the attacking team, should they fail to make solid progress on the difficult first objective. A hard choke-point exists right after the spawn point, providing the defending team with an enormous early-game advantage – assuming they’ve set out their defenses correctly, of course.

Should the attackers successfully conquer this first point, things get a little bit easier for them, with many an underpass avaialable for the offensive forces to start swarming through. The defending team will have to work hard to monitor every avenue of approach here, and ensure the attackers don’t make the kind of meaningful progress that can quickly lead to the control point becoming overwhelmed, and the match coming to a rapid end.

There’s a lot to think about on both sides of the fence, in other words, and so our next map guide tackles this tricky catacomb of tunnels and line-of-sight traps. We’ll be updating this guide regularly in the weeks and months after Overwatch launches, to make sure you’re aware of all the clever tricks that are being employed in the current metagame.

Let us know your own Temple of Anubis tips in the comments section and we’ll include them the next time we update this guide!

Temple of Anubis tips

  • The balcony directly ahead of and overlooking the attacking team’s spawn point makes for an incredible sniping spot. Bring your best Hanzo / Widowmaker player and get some early kills in the bag. Those attacking should of course have one eye on this prime sniper location the minute they enter the map itself. The floating ship to the right of the spawn point – as you face it – is also an amazing location for picking off the enemy.
  • The Temple of Anubis offers a lot of height variation across the map, which is great for characters like Junkrat who like to get in position and drop unholy hell on attackers. Don’t forget that he and Symmetra can also lay traps and turrets right on or near the attacker’s spawning exits to frustrate them from the very first moments of a match. It’ll soften them up nicely for your team to finish off.
  • The double doors just after the first section can be extremely difficult for the attacking team to pass for, and you should expect snipers, a Torbjörn turret or Bastion himself to man the little stepped bridge that overlooks this sole entry point.
  • This area in particular is also Junkrat’s dream battlefield, with plenty of doorways to throw bombs through, and a big old chokepoint to dominate. Symmetra’s turrets again belong in the upper corners of these entrance doorways – consider spreading them out with one in each room and one in the pillar separting the two entrance gaps. As always, mix your approach up each time to keep the enemy on their toes.
  • It’s crucial that the attacking team moves as a group on this map, because your path of progress is so heavily restricted. You want a tank like Reinhardt or D.va on your team, as they both provide the means to shield teammates from incoming fire. Put simply, if you split up and try to go it solo then you are almost certainly going to get torn to shreds.
  • When you’re trying to capture the second point on Temple of Anubis, you should move as a group and proceed down the left-hand side alley, as this provides you with the greatest amount of line-of-sight cover protection as you approach the contested point. The central path is obviously deadly to travel down, and there a plenty of sniping spots along the right-hand channel.
  • Take the left-hand path and you’ll be able to start snaking through the under and overpasses of this map, in whatever way suits the situation you actually find yourself in. This is again another area where the likes of Junkrat and Symmetra can frustrate the opening team by placing pre-emptive defenses. Whatever team you’re on, just try to avoid wide open spaces at all times on this section of the map.
  • Torbjörn and Bastion might want to think about setting up in one of the “blind” corners that can’t be spotted from a team flanking down the left-hand approach to the second control point. That way, when they emerge to actually take the objective, you can rip them to pieces with turret fire.
