The best Legendary cards to craft in Knights of the Frozen Throne, with guides to playing the top decks associated with them.
Now that we’ve got just about every base of the new meta (that we’re aware of at least) covered on geeksplatform, we thought it was a good time to start highlighting some of the stand-out cards from the launch, beginning with the best Legendary cards we’ve seen so far.
The working of all this is pretty simple really. We’ve tallied up how often each one has appeared across the 40 or so deck guides we’ve produced since launch. Then we’ve applied a little insight about how competitive any given deck appears to be. There’s as much art as science here, so do read the overviews carefully before committing to anything.
A few other key things to keep in mind here, of course:
– This is very early days for the Frozen Throne meta, and so this can only represent a current snapshot of how things look right now, at this stage of launch.
– Just because they feature in this list, it doesn’t mean you should rush out and craft it immediately. If Druid’s not your thing then it doesn’t matter how many decks Malfurion the Pestilent appears in – or how competitive Druid turns out to be – he’ll be a dead, expensive card for you.
– You must ask yourself whether it’s more important to you to have the very best decks, or a breadth of decks that offer variety for your Hearthstone life. The former again comes with the caveat that not all things are certain right now.
– Things are a lot closer in the bottom half of the round-up than in the upper half, and everything in this section could nudge up and down.
We think all these considerations are important, so do think carefully about what it is you want from your Hearthstone experience and prioritise your crafting accordingly. We’ve added a little guidance for each entry to help you make those decisions.
With that out of the way though, here’s our current early pick of the best Legendaries in the Frozen Throne meta.
10. Frost Lich Jaina
Although we’re including Frost Lich Jaina in this round-up, we have to place her right towards the bottom of the stack. We’ve got two decks for her here, but Control Mage’s future is very uncertain at the moment, which leaves Elemental Mage – a deck which saw a flurry of interest at the start of the Un’Goro meta, but faded quickly. It needs to make a comeback in the Frozen Throne meta, but the jury’s out on that front.

9. Shadowreaper Anduin
The Priest has had a pretty bad time of things over the last few expansions. Just keep in mind that Highlander Priest – while powerful right now – is a fiddly, finnicky thing and it may well be that it isn’t to your tastes. Dragon Priest is also a bit of a wild card right now, and very much an unproven concept for the new meta.

8. Valeera The Hollow
Now this is a slightly contentious one and so you need to consider this something of a wild card placement for now. Why contentious? Well, there are two camps for Miracle Rogue right now – one that says she’s vital for the format, the other saying this couldn’t be further from the truth. Only time is going to tell here.
A quick note on the Rogue’s other Legendary Lilian Voss. Right now she’s only making an appearance in Thief Rogue which should be considered highly experimental as a potentially competitive deck.

7. Uther of the Ebon Blade
Like the Shaman, this is a bit of an odd one. Uther’s relevance is very narrow – so far – and is a big part of Control Paladin and the experimental Exodia Paladin that looks for a one-turn-kill via the hero power. If Control Paladin proves hot in the long term, Uther of the Ebon Blade is almost certainly going to be a part of the archetype. It’s a case of weighing up whether gameplay variety or piloting the most ruthlessly efficient, one true deck is the most important thing for you.
A quick note on Bolvar, Fireblood. He’s showing up in a few decks but he’s actually divided opinion a little bit. Consider this is a side note pending a full entry.

6. Scourgelord Garrosh
The Warrior has a lot of options right now but a lot of them are a little on the experimental side, so it remains to be seen just how important its core new Legendary – Scourgelord Garrosh – proves in the wider metagame. Still, it is likely to prove an important long-term card for the Warrior in the current meta and beyond.
Rotface is a big part of Control Warrior but we haven’t seen it anywhere else. In the early meta, we’re also finding it a little bit tricky to get multiple taps off it before we run out of self-damage spells too. Keep this one on the bench for now unless you’re dripping in dust and have an obsession with Control Warrior.

5. Bloodreaver Gul’dan
Bloodreaver Gul’dan has found a home in the majority of popular Warlock decks we’ve covered on geeksplatform over the last week or so. The things is though, he doesn’t appear in Zoo Warlock which is looking increasingly like the strongest deck. Still, it’s an important card in Control Warlock, which J4CKIECHAN went on an incredible 20 plus winstreak with at the weekend.
As for Blood-Queen Lana’thel? She’s propping up Demon Warlock for now, but hasn’t shown up in any other decks to date. If that changes, we’ll update this article.

4. Thrall, Deathseer
Shaman’s an interesting one. The Legendary card Thrall, Deathseer is an obviously vital part of the Evolve Shaman concept and so if that deck continues to thrive, so does this card For now we’d say only craft this one if you’re a dedicated fan of the hero and the playstyle too. We’re going to need to see the meta reports for this one, but early impressions suggests this is a very strong card.

3. Deathstalker Rexxar
Deathstalker Rexxar appears in every single Hunter deck that we’ve covered on geeksplatform since the expansion launched and sits high on the list of hero Legendaries. You can gain a little extra faith for this craft from the fact that as long as a core archetype like Midrange Hunter is going to be a part of Hearthstone, Deathstalker Rexxar can be made to work in it.
As for Professor Putricide, he’s only really seeing play in Secret Hunter – as you’d expect – and so is very much a side-craft right now. We just don’t know if that deck is going to be competitive, although Brian Kibler’s early version is a lot of fun to play. Give it a go for yourself if you happen to have this card.

2. Malfurion the Pestilent
Malfurion the Pestilent has already proved his worth in terms of breadth, and there’s a mind-boggling array of decks that have already taken advantage of him. Even if future deck list refinements see him vanish here or there, he still seems like a card that’s going to provide a huge amount of value if you’re a big fan of Druid.
As for Hadronox, the card appears in N’Zoth Druid and Taunt Druid (naturally), and so is a very specific craft if you’re a fan of that format. Taunt’s likely to do well, but the fortunes of the other deck remain to be seen.

1. The Lich King
The absolute daddy of the Frozen Throne expansion and probably the safest craft in the game right now. Even if half of the list of decks below prove uncompetitive in the long-run, and even if he’s dropped from some of them after that, it’s hard to see how this card isn’t going to be a part of the meta as long as the card’s part of the Standard rotation.
He simply fits in to too many decks, and does so too easily to be anything other than top of the pile for the first edition of our guide to the best Frozen Throne Legendary cards.

Honorable Mentions
– Arfus is seeing some play in N’Zoth Druid and Secret Hunter, but does not seem nearly as important a craft as his master right now.
– Prince Keleseth is proving a bit of a showstopper in Zoo Warlock in particular, but that’s about it and it may be that an alternative version of Zoo comes along in the next few weeks anyway. He’s got the potential to appear in this list though.
– As for Prince Valanar, he only appears in Demon Warlock right now, and that deck is both subject to change and yet to prove itself in the wider metagame.
