The Division 2 guide

0

Everything we know so far about the upcoming sequel.

Our Division 2 guide contains everything you need to know about Ubisoft’s sequel, and will be updated with walkthroughs, combat tips and strategy advice as we get more time with the game.

The Division 2 is Ubisoft’s flagship looter shooter and one which sees players take on the role of Agents attempting to save Washington D.C from the brink of collapse. Naturally, it’ll require a whole bunch of ammunition, some well cushioned knee-pads and a willingess to crack open every chest possible.

As you’d expect, the map is enormous and there’s a ridiculous amount to do. This can all be a little overwhelming for those new to the franchise, or even those looking to dive back into the Division’s moreish grind.

To help you out, we’ve put together a host of information on The Division 2 and will be linking to a bunch of our guide articles as they go live on the site. Stay tuned for more in-depth guides as we get more hands on time with the game!

Essential Guides

The Division 2: Quick Overview

Below we’ve highlighted a few key features of The Division 2, including a look at some of the new skills, specialisations and Dark Zone changes.

Specialisations

Once you’ve hit the max level cap (30) in the Division 2, there are three additional unlock paths which open up to you.

They each wield signature weapons and you can swap between them freely too, so you can swap between them dependent on the task at hand. What’s more, you’ll have plenty of customisation options which will let you tinker with stats and skills to better reflect your chosen playstyle.

All Specialisations

First off, this video by Arekkz Gaming does a fantastic job at breaking all of these roles down.

There’s the Sharpshooter wields a long range sniper which hits very, very hard. This specialisation is fantastic for dealing huge damage to single targets and picking off particularly tough enemies without putting itself in danger.

The Survivalist uses an Explosive Tipped Crossbow as its signature weapon, which is perfect for tagging heavily armoured enemies and chunking their health bars from afar.

Finally, the Demolitionist wields a hefty grenade launcher and, well, blows enemies up. Those who choose this specialisation are great at forcing enemies out of position with carefully placed explosives, and dealing blanket AOE damage too.

Skills

As a member of The Division, you’ll have access to tools and abilities which’ll have a major impact on your survival. There are a total four main upgradeable skills which act as companions on the battlefield and they’ll help you change the tide of battle if things get a little hairy.

Here’s a quick breakdown of all four:

  • Assault Drone – “An unmanned device that can be controlled remotely and sent to unleash a special breand of hell on unwitting enemies”.
  • Chem Launcher – “The Chem Launcher shoots various chemicals that disperse upon impact. Its effects vary, from explosive vapors and corrosive acids to repairing nano bots – choose wisely and neutralize any situation.”
  • Hive – “While primarily a defensive tool, the offensive version is called the “Wasp Hive”, where small drones are launched to cause devastating effects to targets within an area.”
  • Seeker Mine – “Once activated, this mine locks onto the closest enemy target in range and rolls along the ground in their direction, detonating when it gets close enough.”

For a closer look, we’ve linked a video by TheGamesEntertainer down below which shows all of the Skills and their variants on offer in The Division 2.

Dark Zone and PVP

Dark Zone

  • There are now three Dark Zones dotted around the map. They are each home to different environments and layouts.
  • Base stats are now balanced in the Dark Zone for all players. This means that it more or less places everyone on a level playing field.
  • On a rotating basis, one of three Dark Zones in The Division 2 will be “Occupied”. Essentially, it’s a Dark Zone which goes back to the original Division’s ruleset: no normalisation, friendly fire is on and anything goes.
  • There’s a “Grey Rogue” status now, which means you won’t be a fully fledged bad guy. You’ll be teased into getting up to mischief if you want to, so it’s a nice middle ground for those who want to get up to some funny business.
  • Those that choose to go Rogue will see a “Progress bar”. Fill this up and you’ll gain access to a secret hideout called the “Thieve’s Den”. Little is known about it yet, but it’s meant to be full of useful stuff – presumably for mischievous agents.

PVP

  • PVP modes will be available on launch.
  • Domination and Skirmish have been revealed so far, and take place across three new maps separate from the campaign.
  • There will be PVP based progression and vanity items too.

Side Activities, Projects and More…

The Division 2 is home to a staggering amount of side content to be getting on with, on top of all the missions you’ll be assigned to progress the story.

Here’s just a quick glance at the sort of stuff that’ll help raise your level, expand your settlements and alter Washington.

  • Control Points – Take control of an area and claim it as an ally controlled space.
  • Public Execution – Rescue hostages from a public execution.
  • Supply Drops – Claim three Supply Drops and stop them from falling into enemy hands.
  • Rescue Operation – Free a hostage from captivity.
  • Bounties – Hunt down a particularly tough mini boss and claim strong rewards for doing so.
  • Propaganda Broadcasting – Override propaganda broadcast and eliminate the waves of enemies which’ll try and stop you.
  • Projects – Fulfil certain requirements (donate X, collect X, complete X) and receive EXP + great rewards for doing so.
  • Strongholds – Essentially The Division 2’s version of difficult dungeons. Prepare yourself before heading in.

Endgame Overview

Arekkz Gaming has done a great job of condensing The Division 2’s enormous endgame into a 5 minute video. Make sure you give it a watch as it’s immensely helpful and shows just how much content opens up to you once you hit the level cap.

You’ll have Gear Scores to worry about, Strongholds to complete, World Tiers to climb and not to mention the entire map will be taken over by a new clan – The Black Tusk. It’s safe to say, they mean business.

Series Overview

Here’s a quick overview of what the first game was all about and should give you a pretty decent flavour of what to expect from the gameplay:

  • The events of the first game took place in the aftermatch of a smallpox pandemic.
  • The Division is a group of agents tasked with combating criminal activity and investigating what exactly caused the outbreak in the first place.
  • As players progress through the game they earn currency – which can be used to purchase weapons and other items – and other skill points which can be used to enhanced combat performance.
  • Missions are spread across a number of different “wings”: Medical, Security and Tech. Advancing the storyline and completing missions in each of these wings allows players to gain new talents and perks which aid them in combat.
  • The player-versus-player (PVP) element of the game takes place in the Dark Zone. This has a separate progression system to that of the single-player game, and sees players attempting to steal extremely powerful high-end equipment, then escaping before other players can prevent them from making off with the loot.
