Three new maps currently in development – Overwatch
All three expected to be released before the end of 2017.
The Overwatch team are currently working on a total of three new maps for Quick and Competitive Play modes, game director Jeff Kaplan has confirmed. All three of these are expected to be released before the end of this year.
As well as these maps for the core game, Kaplan also revealed that the team are working on three separate maps, described as “non-standard”. It’s possible that these are bespoke areas for special in-game events – such as Junkenstein’s Revenge – or even Arcade-specific maps such as Ecopoint Antarctica.
Kaplan also explained that the team are working on other experiments to keep the game refresh, but didn’t provide any extra details on what that might involve.
The last competitive map to be released for Overwatch was Oasis, which hit the live servers back at the start of January. Since then the team have launched new hero Orisa, as well as a couple of seasonal events.
As soon as we have more details on the new maps under development, we’ll bring you all the latest.
