Undatakah Druid deck list guide – Rastakhan – Hearthstone (December 2018)

0

How to play the Undatakah-focused take on Taunt Druid in the new meta.

Our Undatakah Druid deck list guide features the best Rastakhan deck list currently being used in Hearthstone (December 2018). Over time, our Undatakah Druid guide will later be updated with Mulligan advice, card combos and strategy tips.

Undatakah Druid is a Hearthstone deck for fans of classic Taunt Druid who are looking for a slightly new variation to play in Rastakhan’s Rumble. The overall aim of resummoning all of your Taunt minions that have died throughout the game using Hadronox is exactly the same, but this new version has far more reach through the use of the new legendary minion, Da Undatakah.

With Undatakah Druid you are able to give yourself an unlimited number of ways to bring back your Taunt minions by feeding a couple of specific Deathrattle effects to the deck’s namesake. You can not only apply the Taunt resummon effect from Hadronox but also the reshuffle effect from Astral Tiger. With those combined on Da Undatakah, its death will revive all of your Taunt creatures and then shuffle itself back into your deck – every time.

This combo gives you a potentially unlimited number of copies of Da Undatakah to play in the game, which will keep bringing your Taunt creatures back to life. Naturally, the deck can be painfully weak to a single silence effect, but it’s also slipping down the tier list following the recent round of balance changes. The nerfs to Wild Growth and Nourish have considerably hindered the deck’s potential to ramp up to its late game cards quickly.

For now, it still remains a popular pick in the Rastakhan meta, though we expect to see it plummet significantly over the next few weeks. We’ll keep an eye on the deck to see how events develop further so be sure to return here for all the latest updates!

VIDEO GUIDE – As there is quite a lot of wrap your head around when playing Undatakah Druid we thought we’d point you towards this video from Hearthstone streamer Kripp in which he discusses and plays the deck. Seeing it in action should hopefully give you some more insight on how to pilot the deck most effectively!

General strategy

If you’ve ever played Taunt Druid then the good news is you already have a pretty good idea of how to play Undatakah Druid. For the majority of the game, the principle remains exactly the same: summon a host of imposing Taunt minions that are difficult for your opponent to clear, and when they die resummon them all with Hadronox

The twist on this version of the deck is the inclusion of new Rastakhan’s Rumble legendary Da Undatakah. As this minion absorbs the Deathrattle effects of up to three friendly creatures that have died during the game, you can ensure it will receive the Taunt resurrection effect from Hadronox and the reshuffle effect from Astral Tiger. Essentially, giving you unlimited copies of the minion to play over the course of the game!

Early game: Similar to Taunt Druid – or the majority of Druid decks, for that matter – begin the game by focusing on your Mana ramp with Wild Growth. You’ll want to get your expensive Taunt minions down as soon as possible. You can also work towards building up your Armor to ensure you’ll survive into the late game, while playing card draw effects to get to those key pieces of the deck.

Mid game: Continue your Mana ramp with Nourish. You’re hitting the point now where you can start to put some serious pressure on the board, and you should get Astral Tiger down if you have it. If you’ve fallen behind then there are a number of ways for you to rebalance the game with the likes of Spreading Plague or Swipe against aggro decks, and Naturalise or Lesser Jasper Spellstone against single larger minions.

Late game: Now you can start putting your biggest creatures on the board, turn after turn after turn. Your opponent will have to scramble to clear these off efficiently, but even if they do you can just bring them back with Hadronox. Master Oakheart will be able to tutor the giant spider from your deck should you not have it in your hand yet.

Ensure both Hadronox and Astral Tiger have died before you play Da Undatakah too. That’s what will keep you in the game infinitely, as more and more copies get reshuffled back into the deck that will resurrect all of your deceased Taunt creatures.

Aggro opponents

Here are some tips for dealing with any aggro decks you come up against:

  • 1. Do not worry about falling behind on the board too much early on, as both Swipe and Spreading Plague can relieve all of that pressure when you play them.
  • 2. If you ramp up fast enough to get a big Taunt minion on the board early, that can often be a significant problem for aggro to deal with efficiently.
  • 3. Focus on building up your Armor against aggro too. All that little chip damage will do nothing if you have a huge chunk of Armor to absorb it.
  • 4. Naturalize is a desperation play to clear a troublesome minion, as the additional cards you give aggro may be the extra resources they need to rush you down.

Control opponents

Here’s are some words of advice to keep in mind when facing control decks on ladder:

  • 1. You can survive well into the late game against control decks, and still have enough gas in the tank to win thanks to the reshuffling copies of Da Undatakah.
  • 2. When playing Malfurion the Pestilent, consider whether you need the extra Taunt minions or if you’re better off getting Poisonous creatures that can instantly kill bigger targets.
  • 3. Save Naturalise for the biggest threats in your opponent’s deck.
  • 4. Use your copy of Savage Roar when you have an overwhelming board of minions. Your opponent may not be prepared for that additional surprise burst damage.

Undatakah Druid Mulligan guide

Many of the standard Mulligan tips for Druid apply to Undatakah Druid too, but here’s a recap just to refresh your memory:

  • 1. Wild Growth: Your early game Mana ramp tool. Always keep this in your opening hand.
  • 2. Oaken Summons: Gives you some early Armor gain while also putting an Ironwood Golem on the board to slow down early aggression from your opponent.
  • 3. Nourish: More Mana ramp for the mid game.

Undatakah Druid tips, combos and synergies

There are a couple of key combos to keep in mind when playing Undatakah Druid. We have everything you need to know about them listed here:

Lesser Jasper Spellstone only does two damage in its vanilla form, but gain three points of Armor to upgrade the card to four damage. Another three-Armor gain maxes the card out at six damage.

– You’ll want to gain a lot of Armor in order to survive into the late game and reach your win condition. Using Ferocious Howl will be a huge help in achieving that goal, as you’ll have a rather large hand size throughout the match.

Oaken Summons will always drag Ironwood Golem into play for free – that’s assuming a copy of one of those minions is still in your deck somewhere.

– As Astral Tiger is a key card you’ll need to get it on the board to reach your win condition. Oaken Summons is the perfect spell to help find it in your deck, as it will summon a minion that costs four or less mana when played.

– When Hadronox dies it’ll resummon all friendly Taunt minions that have died throughout the game, which can amount to a huge problem for your opponent to deal with a second time.

Spreading Plague will spawn a 1 / 5 Scarab with Taunt for each of your opponent’s minions. It’s the perfect answer to aggro decks that have gone wide on the board.

– You’ll want to ensure both Astral Tiger and Hadronox have been played and killed before you summon Da Undatakah. The new Rastakhan Legendary will gain the Deathrattle effects of both those cards, and set up the infinite combo the deck is built around.

Master Oakheart will Recruit a one, two and three attack minion from your deck when played, which can create a big tempo play by bringing Hadronox and Mosh’ogg Enforcer onto the board in a single turn.

Savage Roar is an excellent finishing move for this deck, as it will give all minions under your control (and your hero) a bonus two Attack for the remainder of the turn.

The Lich King has a collection of special cards, and he’ll add one at random at the end of each of your turns. These are the cards you can draw into:

Cost Name Description
1 Death Coil Deal 5 damage to an enemy, or restore 5 Health to a friendly character.
2 Death Grip Steal a minion from your opponent’s deck and add it to your hand.
2 Obliterate Destroy a minion. Your hero takes damage equal to its Health.
3 Death and Decay Deal 3 damage to all enemies.
4 Anti-Magic Shell Give your minions +2 / +2 and “Can’t be targeted by spells or Hero Powers.”
5 Doom Pact Destroy all minions. Remove the top card from your deck for each minion destroyed.
6 Army of the Dead Remove the top 5 cards of your deck. Summony any minions removed.
7 Frostmourne Deathrattle: Summon every minion killed by this [5 / 3] weapon.

Da Undatakah’s Battlecry grants the minion up to three Deathrattle effects from friendly minions that have died during the game. Ensure Astral Tiger and Hadronox have died before you play it so you gain both their effects as that’s key to the deck working!

Card choices and substitutes

Here are the important cards in Undatakah Druid. Familiarise yourself with these to get a better understand of how the deck works:

  • Wild Growth: The Mana ramp you’ll need to play your more expensive end game cards quicker.
  • Savage Roar: With the many opportunities you’ll have to generate a wide board this can be a powerful finisher. Some decks are running Zilliax or Ultimate Infestation in its place instead.
  • Astral Tiger: Played to give you the reshuffle Deathrattle effect you want to apply on Da Undatakah.
  • Branching Paths: A wonderfully versatile card that can adapt to a number of different situations you may find yourself in throughout a game.
  • Nourish: Offers more Mana ramp for the deck to get you to those late game cards as fast as possible.
  • Malfurion the Pestilent: The additional creatures it spawns can be handy in a pinch, and the new Hero Power is also very useful for surviving into the late game.
  • Da Undatakah: The centrepiece of this adaptation of Taunt Druid. Once Astral Tiger and Hadronox have been played and killed you can drop this to go infinite.
  • The Lich King: Simply another big and imposing Taunt that you’ll want to resurrect again with Hadronox. The bonus spells can be handy too!
  • Hadronox: Get this on the board when you have an army of deceased Taunt minions that you’re ready to resurrect to pile the pressure back on your opponent.
  • Master Oakheart: This card offers huge tempo play potential, as it has the chance of bringing three minions onto the board with it, including Hadronox.
