Update 7.1 will nerf two core cards in the current metagame – Hearthstone
Aggro decks to be tamed in the next round of re-balancing.
Blizzard will re-balance two of Hearthstone’s most popular cards in Update 7.1, widely expected to be released before the end of this month.
The cards in question are Small-time Buccaneer and Spirit Claws, both of which dominate in some of the most popular aggressive decks in the game, such as Pirate Warrior and Aggro Shaman.
Once the patch has been applied, Small-time Buccaneer‘s Health value will be reduced from 2 to 1, which should make it much easier to remove – and to do before it can become empowered by a weapon.
Next up for the nerf-bat is Spirit Claws, which will soon cost 2 Mana instead of 1. This potent Shaman weapon becomes more powerful if a source of spell-damage is out on the board, and the availability of Bloodmage Thalnos and the Shaman’s spell-damage totem means this card simply curves out too quickly, too often.
Will these changes be enough to repair a meta that has become so bloated with aggro decks in recent months? We’ll have to wait and see, but with the next expansion at least a month or two away, it’s clear something needed to change.
We’ll update this article when Blizzard confirms a release date for the new patch.
