General strategy

Aggro Demon Hunter is a pretty simple deck to play – just stay on curve and go face, mostly. Of course, there’s a bit more to it though.

Early game: You have a whole lot of 1-drops to choose from. If you’re going second, you might have the Coin which makes your Intrepid Initiates extremely powerful. In fact, Intrepid Initiate into Coin into Beaming Sidekick is such a ridiculous turn 1 that you’ll end up with a 3/4 and 1/2 on board immediately, which can put you right on the front foot extremely fast.

That’s not all though. All your early minions are great shouts. Blazing Battlemage is perfect in a lot of situations, and sometimes you can just whack out a cheeky Battlefiend and get to buffing it with your Hero Power. Basically, at this point in the game just stay on curve and go face, weaving in Hero Powers whenever you can.

Mid game: Keep it up! Hopefully they’re feeling the pain by this point. You can also use Demon Companion on your wide boards – you have a 1 in 3 chance of getting yourself a cheeky +1 Attack for all your minions which can make the difference. We actually really like Mana Burn as a way to slow your enemy’s responses down too – some removal spells are vital on curve and forcing your enemy to wait before casting Brawl can be extremely powerful.

Late game: You should be close to victory, but if not there are always options. Skull of Gul’dan, when Outcast, reduces your cards’ cost by 3 which often lets you play them immediately, and Voracious Reader keeps your hand size ticking over meaning you guarantee 4 cards in hand at the start of each turn. Once you get to this point, just keep on top of enemy stabilisation – Mana Burn is great if you have it and Glaivebound Adept offers 4 direct damage if you’ve already attacked with your Hero (which costs just 1 mana). As a final gambit, Kayn Sunfury can get through walls of enemy Taunts, but use this Legendary with care – he’ll almost certainly be killed off immediately after.

These are the cards you’ll want to make the best possible start with Aggro Demon Hunter:

  • 1. Battlefiend is a great initial option, as you can immediately start buffing it with your Hero Power attacks.
  • 2. As mentioned, Intrepid Initiate is a perfect starter card, especially if you’re going second.
  • 3. Aside from your 1-drops, Voracious Reader can completely steamroll the enemy. If they can’t kill it, you’ll never run out of card draw.

Aggro Demon Hunter tips, combos and synergies

Keep an eye out for these cards and synergies when playing Aggro Demon Hunter.

Intrepid Initiate gains +2 Attack as soon as you cast a spell while it’s on board, making it essentially a 1 mana 3/2 if you have the Coin. There are alternative cheap spell options though – Mana Burn can be a great disruption and Demon Companion doubles as board presence.

Glaivebound Adept deals 4 damage to a target of your choice, but only if your Hero has attacked on the same turn. If this is the case, a yellow border will surround the card in your hand.

Guardian Augmerchant can be used to give your minions Divine Shield, but don’t forget you can also ping enemies and deal a bit of damage to finish them off. Just make sure you do finish them, or you’ll give them Divine Shield!

Mana Burn acts like the Shaman Overload mechanic. It’s pretty simple – your enemy won’t be able to use 2 mana on the following turn, meaning if they were planning on clearing you off with Soul Mirror or Brawl to survive, they might no longer be able to.

– Remember that Altruis the Outcast hits face with its 1 damage to all enemies, so you can sneak in extra damage past Lifesteals and Taunts if you’re close to victory.

Guardian Augmerchant can be used on a friendly Bonechewer Brawler to end up with a 4/2 with Taunt and Divine Shield – very irritating for an opponent to remove at the early stages of a game.
