Destiny 2: Beyond Light – Everything we know so far

0

It's looking good.

Destiny 2 Beyond Light promises a huge rework of existing content and plenty of brand new activities, abilities and more. In this guide we’ll break down everything you need to know about the upcoming expansion.

Beyond Light is Destiny 2’s big expansion, its chance to catch a waning game and fling it back into the limelight. Much like Forsaken before it, and The Taken King way before that, we’re hoping it gives Destiny the push it needs to bring back lapsed players and keep the hardcore fans happy.

So far, it sounds promising.

Beyond Light: Quick Overview

Below we’ve put together a quick roundup of everything we know so far about Destiny 2: Beyond Light. Stay tuned for further updates as it nears release!

When does it release?

Beyond Light launches on 10th November 2020 on PC, Xbox One, and Playstation 4. Bungie’s confirmed Destiny 2 is being optimised for next gen consoles too, so expect some hefty FPS boosts and graphical upgrades when Xbox Series X and Playstation 5 launch sometime in November.

It’s also worth noting that if you own a copy of Destiny 2 on Xbox One, you’ll be able to transfer your game to Xbox Series X for free via their Smart Delivery service.

What new content is arriving?

A new planet. Europa to be exact. It’s a snowy moon of Jupiter and the birthplace of the Exo race, so expect plenty of glaciers, frosty enemy types, and some juicy lore details on our android friends.

Rework of existing content. There’s a huge number of locations and an overwhelming amount of content in Destiny 2 right now. With Beyond Light, Bungie’s rotating a number of locations and questlines out of the game and popping them in the DCV (Destiny Content Vault). This doesn’t mean they’re gone forever, just that they’re on the bench for reworks and future reappearances.

This rejig of content should make Destiny 2 a more streamlined experience for new and existing players. Of course, though, Bungie’s aware it’s getting rid of stuff. So, it’s also going to begin cycling in locations from Destiny 1. We know that sometime in Season 4 we’ll be getting the Vault of Glass raid on Venus and the Cosmodrome on Earth, likely spruced up a little for current times.

The Director will have the following destinations when Beyond Light ships:

  • Europa (new)
  • Cosmodrome (unvaulted)
  • Moon
  • Tangled Shore
  • Dreaming City
  • European Dead Zone
  • Nessus

A new subclass. Stasis will join Arc, Solar, and Void as the fourth element and from the looks of things it’s essentially frost. You’ll be able to conjure ice shards, freeze enemies and shatter them into sparkly pieces.

New gear. Most notably, there will be new weapons utilising the power of the Darkness and tonnes of new Exotics.

A new raid. The Deep Stone Crypt will arrive in Year 4 and you’ll find it “below the frozen tundra of Europa”. That’s all we know right now, but we imagine it’ll release a couple of weeks into Beyond Light.

As more info is released we’ll update this guide straight away! Stay tuned.
