Everything you need to know about the new Battle Royale mode in CS:GO
Our CS:GO Danger Zone guide explains how the new Battle Royale mode works, with details of weapons, equipment and special missions covered.
CS:GO now has its very own Battle Royale mode, and it goes by the name of Danger Zone. Although the player count is reduced significantly from that used in games like PUBG and Fortnite, it’s a welcome addition to the game that seems to be going down very well with fans.
In our guide to Danger Zone, we’ve pulled together all of the information you need to get started. We’ve also got some gameplay video which will help you get started. When we’ve had more time to play the mode ourselves, we’ll add in further tips.
- Unlike most Battle Royale games, which feature around 100 players doing battle to the death, CS:GO’s take on the mode will reduce the fight size down to 16 for solo queue. Enter as a team and that player cap increases to 18.
- The action takes place on a map called Blacksite. Having chosen your starting point, you’ll then need to scour the playable area for equipment and cash. There’s also supply drops which arrive from the sky – if these work like other Battle Royale games, they’ll contain unusually powerful equipment and will be hotly contested.
- There are also safes located here and there on the map. You won’t be able to open these unless you have some C4 explosives on hand, but if you can get them open you’ll be able to add some very tasty loot to your inventory.
- Special Missions can be completed to gain additional rewards. Contract Missions reward you for killing a specific target, for example, while Hostage Missions have you taking a hostage to safety.
- During play you’ll be able to make use of a personal tablet. This highlights key strategic information, allowing you to track opponents and supply drop deliveries, and avoid the closing Danger Zone.
- Weapons include pistols, rifles, SMGs and heavy weapons from across the entire roster of equipment available in the core CS:GO game.

- Medi-Shots work a little bit differently from the usual health-restoration items that exist in other Battle Royale games. Not only do they restore health, they also provide a temporary boost to your movement speed, allowing you to quickly escape from the present danger.
- There are three modes in Danger Zone: Solo, Duo and Trio. As the names suggests this allows you to play on your own, or with a friend or two.
- Matches are relatively brief in Danger Zone. Valve is confident that most matches will be wrapped up within 10 minutes or so, providing a much brisker pace then you’ll be used to from other games in the genre.
- All weapon stats in the game are exactly the same as they are in the core CS:GO experience. The only difference is that player health is increased to 120 to allow for greater survivability.
