The old console connection error message crops up once more.
It’s another day and what looks like a fresh crop of problems for a proportion of console players trying to connect to the Overwatch servers. PlayStation 4 owners in particular are once again facing error message LC-202, which prevents them from logging into the game at all. Note that this isn’t affecting everyone, so don’t panic if you’re reading this at school or work and have a night of Overwatch planned!
If you are receiving this error message though, there are a few steps you can take that are recommended by Blizzard, although we’re not entirely sure what the success rate from any of these steps is like. Still, try the following if you’re out of luck trying to get into the game and aren’t sure where to start:
- Run the connection test in your console network settings to ensure there’s nothing wrong at your end.
- Fire up your console’s browser and then navigate to Blizzard’s Looking Glass Tool. This will directly test the connection between your console and Blizzard’s servers.
- If you’re using a wireless connection, try going wired briefly to see if that solves the issue.
- Reset all of your network devices (this is the point you start giving up on getting this working, we know…)
- Perform whatever diagnostic tools you have to see if there are any issues with your firewall, your router, or the ports you’re using (if you’re not tech savvy enough to do this, don’t play with anything important!

That’s pretty much it in terms of the official LC-202 fixes that are available from Blizzard. If you’ve tried the above steps and you’re still receiving this error, you can at least take some consolation from the fact that the problem isn’t at your end, and so there’s no need to waste any more of your time checking settings at home – however frustrating it may be not to be able to play the game, of course.
Just keep in mind that even if you do manage to get in after a period of being locked out, you might want to mess around in Quick Play for a little bit – if you get booted from a Competitive Play match, the Leaver Penalty does still apply, even for network disconnections.
