The Overwatch World Cup 2019 is returning in November
Global event will return in time for BlizzCon.
Blizzard has announced that the Overwatch World Cup 2019 will be taking place at the start of November, and it’s also mixing up the format a little too.
Traditionally, the tournament kicks off as soon as BlizzCon opens its doors, but this year Blizzard will introduce new preliminary rounds to the mix. These will take place just before BlizzCon actually starts, and Blizzard says it’s going to “create the chance of seeing more nations represented at BlizzCon.” Can’t argue with that.

Any national team can compete in the preliminary rounds and it’s a single-elimination, seeded bracket based on national rankings. Five of the top ranked teams automatically receive byes to the group stages, so all other teams will fight for the final five spots.
Once all ten teams have been decided, the group stage will begin after BlizzCon’s Opening Ceremony on Friday 1st November. Finally, the top six teams from the group stage will advance to the single-elimination playoff bracket, followed by the actual finals on 2nd November.
