Destiny 2: Sturm and Drang guide – How to unlock the Nessus Exotic Weapon

0

Our walkthrough for unlocking the Nessus Exotic Weapon

Our Sturm and Drang guide contains a complete walkthrough for unlocking these amazing guns from the Nessus Exotic Weapon quest chain.

Each of the four planets in Destiny 2 has a quest line associated with it that will grant you a very cool Exotic Weapon once you’ve finished all of the challenges involved.

Nessus is no exception, and if you can tick off a handful of end-game quests then you’ll unlock Sturm and Drang, a very popular returning weapon for the sequel. You can then pair these up with the Mida Mini-Tool obtained from Earth!

Sturm is a unique Exotic weapon which automatically reloads your Energy weapon when you get kills with it. Drang, on the other hand, has a Perk which reloads your Sturm when you get kills with it. Combined, you effectively never have to reload, just switch between them.

Editor’s Update: We’ve added in a brand new section which outlines how Sturm and Drang complement each other and what sort of playstyle they both cater to. You’ll find this at the very bottom of the page after the walkthrough.

How do you unlock them both though? The video below explains exactly what you need to do to tick off each section of this pretty intensive quest line. We recommend watching the whole thing to the end, and give it a thumbs up too if it helped you out.

Just below the video we’ve broken down the steps for you, so you have a checklist you can refer to as you work your way through the list.

(If you want to be the best at every area of the game, don’t forget to bookmark our PVP, Strike and Subclass guide pages – they’ve got everything you need if you want to get more out of Destiny 2, and will be continuously updated in the weeks ahead.)

First of all, complete Destiny 2’s campaign. Once you’ve done so you will unlock the World Quests on the different locations. Specifically, for Sturm and Drang it’s going to be on Nessus and it’s called Exodus Black.

Complete the campaign, go to Nessus and look for the blue quest marker icon for Exodus Black on your map. There are actually multiple missions in the quest line, so just keep following the blue dots around Nessus until you’ve completed the whole thing.

Once you complete the final chain in this mission, you’ll receive the Drang right there and then as a Legendary side-arm. How to get Sturm though?

Well, when you complete this section you’ll also get a Legendary Quest item which slots itself into your kinetic weapons slot.

It instructs you to go and talk to the Cryptarch, and once you’ve done so you’ll be given the following new objectives:

  • Objective 1: Decrypt 5 Legendary Engrams
  • Objective 2: Decrypt 1 Exotic Engram
  • Objective 3: Defeat Fallen on Nessus with Drang

Number 2 is probably the hardest, so consider keeping the Exotic Engram given to you by Zavalas for completing the main Campaign. The other two objectives are pretty self-explanatory.

When you finish these objectives you’ll be told to go back to the Cryptarch. Speak to him, then go and talk to Tyra Karn on The Farm in the European Dead Zone.

Once you’ve spoken to Tyra Karn, the Relic in your Kinetic slot will give you two brand-new objectives:

  • Objective 1: Defeat multiple Fallen with Drang without reloading
  • Objective 2: Defeat a powerful Fallen with Drang

That’s ten Fallen double kills without reloading. Kill two, reload, repeat until you’ve finished the first objective.

To finish the second objective you’ll have to kill powerful Fallen (enemies with a yellow health bar) on Nessus without reloading. Your best bet for this is to go to a Glimmer Extraction event and get the killing blow (not just a little damage) on one of the big bads there.

Once you’ve finished these steps, you’ll be required to go and talk to Tyra Karn, but on the way you’ll be diverted to the Exodus Crash site. Go to the blue marker called Relics of the Golden Age.

Get in a fireteam, enter the quest zone and complete the quest. This has you tapping pillars of light located all around the region and killing Servitor Kendriks-7. Note that you don’t even need to use Drang during this encounter – work with whatever’s best for you.

Your final objective is to return to Tyra Karn on The Farm, and she’ll give you a special Engram that rewards you with Sturm!

How do Sturm and Drang complement each other?

Sturm’s Intrinsic is entitled “Accomplice” which means that kills with this weapon fill the magazine of the equipped Energy weapon from reserves. Couple this with its trait which grants bonus precision damage with every kill until the next reload – and you’ve got something pretty powerful.

Both the trait and the perk ensure that you’ll have a pretty constant damage output. There’s no reason to reload so long as you keep swapping between them, using Drang to deplete enemy shields before finishing them off with the incredibly powerful Sturm. You can get into quite a nice combat rhythm with this duo, although you’ll have to bear in mind that you’re going to be using both a sidearm and Hand Cannon which aren’t exactly built for range.

Overall, it’s perfect for those who value fun above all else and relish swapping between a dynamic duo of handguns.
