Does Wild Rift have a release date and can I sign up for a beta?

Here's when Wild Rift is likely to launch.

Our League of Legends: Wild Rift release page explains when Wild Rift will launch, if you can sign up to play the game early and everything else you need to know about the mobile version of League of Legends.

Alongside Legends of Runeterra and Project A (now Valorant), Riot Games unveiled another surprise during its League of Legends 10th Anniversary Celebration – a mobile version of the game is in development.

Named League of Legends: Wild Rift, it’s not a mobile port, but a version of the game that’s been built from the ground up for mobile devices. This means it has refreshed models, animation, game systems and more.

Below we’ll explain if the game has a release date yet, whether you can sign up to play early and give a general overview of how it’ll differ from its PC compatriot.

UPDATE: Alpha Test and New Gameplay!

After a long, long silence – Riot’s finally revealed it’s beta plans for Wild Rift.

It’s holding a small alpha test for those in Brazil and the Philippines from June 6th to June 27th (Manila time). This testwill be small, and only available to those on Android, sorry Apple users.

To get access to this test, you’ll need to have pre-registered for Wild Rift on Google Play. Riot will then randomly select participants, so keep your fingers crossed for access!

We’ll update this guide with a quick overview of all the info when we can, but for now, make sure you head on over to Riot’s official Wild Rift alpha test announcement page for all the key info.

Does League of Legends: Wild Rift have a release date?

League of Legends: Wild Rift doesn’t currently have a release date. However, on its official landing page, Riot gives more information on when we can expect to get hands on with it.

Alphas and betas will roll out through the end of this year, starting in China. The plan is to have the mobile version fully live in all other regions “by the end of 2020”, with console “coming sometime after”.

Can I sign up for a beta?

Those on Android can pre-register on the Google Play Store right now. Currently there is no word on iOS device registration, but we know it’s “coming soon” to Apple devices.

For console players, beta information will arrive “a bit later in 2020”.

To pre-register on Android, search “League of Legends: Wild Rift” on the Google Play Store. Select the game and click “pre-register” – and that’s it. Google will notify you when the game is available to download and install.

What is the difference between Wild Rift and the PC version?

Wild Rift isn’t a mobile port. Instead, it’s a version of League of Legends which has been rebuilt from scratch for mobile devices. This means it has refreshed champion models, animations and gameplay systems.

It’s also free to play and there’s ranked matchmaking if you’re into the competitive side of things too. What’s more, if you sign up with your existing Riot account, you can get rewards for the time you’ve spent in League PC.

Unlike the PC version, which now has over 140 champions, Wild Rift will be home to 40 when it launches, with more additions planned over time.

Is there crossplay between mobile and PC?

No, there isn’t crossplay between League of Legends for PC and Wild Rift. While both games are similar, they are also pretty different when it comes to fundamental gameplay mechanics.

With this in mind, Riot isn’t adding cross-platform play as it would compromise “competitive integrity”. However, you can expect coordinated event themes and releases between both games.

If you’re disappoined with this news, there’s still a very slim chance crossplay may be introduced in the future – Riot’s “exploring the possibility”.

What are the minimum mobile specs?

Nothing is set in stone, but Riots aiming to make the game as accessible as possible, meaning it should work on plenty of devices.

For Android, it’s hoping to have compatibility to the equivalent of a Samsung Galaxy A7: 1GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, and Adreno 306 GPU.

For iOS devices, it’s aiming to have Wild Rift run on ipHone 5S and later.
