What is a Fortbyte?

Fortbytes are a new collectible series of computer chips and there are a total of 100 to find and earn.

As you go about collecting Fortbytes, you’ll begin decrypting a mysterious image. The ultimate aim is to collect them all to reveal the image and likely earn yourself a rare cosmetic reward.

On the first day of Season 9, a total of 18 Fortbytes were unlocked for Battle Pass holders. At least one new Fortbyte will be unlocked each day.

Fortbytes are earned by completing a specific task. Some require certain EXP requirements to be met, while others require you to visit certain areas of the map wearing a specific skin.

We’ve placed these Fortbyte locations in numerical order for ease of use and embedded both video and screenshots to help you out even further.

Where to find Fortbyte #2 – “Found at a location within Loading Screen 6”

This Fortbyte can be found on top of the futuristic clock tower in south west Neo Tilted.

Where to find Fortbyte #3 – “Accessible by Using the Skull Trooper Emoji at the Western Most Point”

Make sure you’ve got the Skull Trooper Emoji equipped. It’s unlocke at tier 58 of the Season 9 Battle Pass.

You’ll find the Fortbyte at the westernmost point at Snobby Shores. Its right on the cliff edge, at the end of the dirt path. Use the emote next to it and the Fortbyte will be yours.

Where to find Fortbyte #4 – “Accessible by Skydiving Through Rings Above Loot Lake with Plasma Trail Contrails”

For this Fortbyte, you’ll need to equip the Plasma Trail Contrail.

As soon as you’re above Loot Lake, deploy your glider and begin falling through the hoops which appear. Float through them all successfully and you’ll earn the Fortbyte as a reward.

Where to find Fortbyte #5 – “Accessible by Using the Laid Back Shuffle Emote Inside a Dance Club”

The Laid Back Shuffle Emote is unlocked at Tier 95 of the Season 9 Battle Pass.

Head inside the large warehouse directly west of Fatal Fields and use the emote. Once you’ve done so successfully, the Fortbyte will be yours.

Where to find Fortbyte #6 – “Accessible with Yay Emote at Ice Cream Shop in Desert”

First you’ll need to equip the “Yay” emote which you’ll unlock at tier 14 of the Battle Pass.

You’ll find the Ice Cream Shop south east of the Mega Mall, right next to a section of the racetrack on the outskirts of Paradise Palms.

Head inside and you’ll find the Fortbyte just behind the counter. Use the “Yay” emote and you’ll be able to pick up the Fortbyte.

Where to find Fortbyte #7 – “Accessible by using Cuddle Up Emoticon inside a Rocky Umbrella”

First, go ahead and equip the “Cuddle Up” Emoticon in your Locker.

When you jump from the Battle Bus, you’ll want to aim for the Umbrella shaped quarry south east of The Block.

Float right to the south side of the Umbrella (the handle) and you’ll spot the Fortbyte on a raised wooden platform. Land next to it, use the Cuddle Up emote and it’ll be yours to keep.

Where to find Fortbyte #8 – “Found within Junk Junction”

This Fortbyte’s probably the easiest of the lot to find. Simply start gliding towards Junk Junction when you leap from the Battle Bus and aim for the large warehouse in the centre.

Head down to the ground level, find your way inside and proceed into the living space. You’ll find the Fortbyte sitting on top of the mattress in the corner.

Where to find Fortbyte #11 – “Found Beneath a Circling Jungle Parrot”

This Fortbyte appears randomly in the jungle to the east of the Pressure Plant.

We’d recommend deploying your glider over the jungle and keeping your eyes peeling for a circling parrot. Once you spot it, simply head on over to its location, drop to the ground and collect your Fortbyte.

Where to find Fortbyte #12 – “Accessible by Using the Nana Nana Spray Inside a Molten Tunnel”

The Nana Spray is unlocked at tier 57 of the Battle Pass, so make sure you equip it before heading into game.

You’ll find the Fortbyte inside the molten tunnel located at the very tip of the lava stream, southwest of the volcano. Use the spray next to the Fortbyte and you’ll be able to pick it up.

Where to find Fortbyte #13 – “Found at a Location Hidden in Loading Screen 2”

To get this Fortbyte, you’ll need to head to the south of Paradise Palms, just north of the waterfall.

The Fortbyte is located inside a porterloo near the purple dinosaur statue, just next to a little building just by the side of the road. Simply give the porterloo a tap with your pickaxe and interact with the Fortbyte to collect it.

Where to find Fortbyte #14 – “Found Within an RV Park”

To get this Fortbyte, you’ll need to head to the RV park northeast of the Mega Mall.

The Fortbyte can be found next to the pink RV towards the north of the park.

Where to find Fortbyte #16 – “Found in a Desert House with Too Many Chairs”

South of Paradise Palms, there’s a small desert town which is home to a house with loads of chairs both blocking its doorways. It’s red/pink on the outside and is located in the south western part of town.

Make your way through the house and into the bedroom. You’ll find the Fortbyte by the bed!

Where to find Fortbyte #17 – “Found inside a Wooden Fish Building”

To unlock this Fortbyte, start by making your way towards the volcanic vents to the east of Lazy Lagoon.

As you come in to land, you’ll quickly notice that one of the vents has a giant wooden fish planted right in the centre of it. As you’d expect, this is the one you’ll want to visit.

The Fortybyte is inside its tail, nice.

Where to find Fortbyte #18 – “Found Somewhere Between Mega Mall and Dusty Divot”

This Fortbyte can be found in the small wooden hut west of Mega Mall and very close to an Air Vent.

Simply head inside and you’ll find the Fortbyte tucked in the corner.

Where to find Fortbyte #19 – “Accessible with the Vega Outfit Inside a Spaceship Building”

You’ll unlock the Vega Outfit at tier 47 of the Season 9 Battle Pass. Make sure you equip this before heading into a match.

Next, land on the spaceship building directly east of Polar Peak and head inside.

You’ll spot the Fortbyte on the south side of the building.

Where to find Fortbyte #20 – “Found at the Centre of Any of the First Three Storm Circles”

When you jump from the Battle Bus, deploy your glider straight away and hang in the air for one minute until the first circle forms. As soon as it has formed, glide into the centre of the circle and collect your Fortbyte.

Where to find Fortbyte #21 – “Found inside a Metal Llama Building”

This Fortbyte can be found inside the Metal Llama north of Junk Junction. Land on its head, open the door and it’ll be right in front of you.

Where to find Fortbyte #22 – “Accessible by using Rox Spray in an Underpass”

First make sure you’ve equipped the “Rox” spray, which you’ll unlock at Tier 5 of the Season 9 Battle Pass.

Next, make your way to the south of Neo Tilted. Aim for the big red crane when you come in for landing and you’ll spot the Underpass right next to it.

Once you’ve arrived, the Fortbyte is in the centre of the Underpass, tucked away in a corner. Spray Rox on the wall next to it and you’ll gain the ability to pick it up. Done!

Where to find Fortbyte #23 – “Found Between an RV Campsite, Gas Station and a Monstrous Footprint”

This Fortbyte can be found on top of the mountain west of Loot Lake with a square patch of dirt on top of it. As you come in to land, you’ll spot it on the edge of the mountain top.

Where to find Fortbyte #24 – “Found within Fatal Fields”

To grab this Fortbyte, you’ll need to land in south eastern Fatal Fields and head inside the large house opposite of the big barn.

Go through the front door and up the stairs to the second floor, proceed through the second door on the right and the Fortbyte will be waiting for you in the corner by the desk and whiteboard.

Where to find Fortbyte #26 – “Accessible with Bunker Jonesy near a Snowy Bunker”

Step number one is to reach Battle Pass tier 23 to unlock the Bunker Jonesy outfit. Once you’ve done so, equip it in your Locker.

Next, head to the largest island south west of Happy Hamlet. Right in the centre of this island you’ll find a bunker which will open up if you’re wearing the Bunker Jonesy outfit.

Simply head inside and you’ll find the Fortbyte tucked in the corner.

Where to find Fortbyte #27 – “Found Somewhere Within Map Location A4”

This Fortbyte appears randomly in map location A4 (north of Snobby Shores), so it won’t always appear in the same spot.

Where to find Fortbyte #29 – “Found Underneath the Tree in Crackshot’s Cabin”

This Fortbyte can be found underneath the Christmas tree inside a large wooden cabin nestled in the mountains south of Viking Village and between Frosty Flights.

Head inside and you’ll spot the Fortbyte just underneath the tree.

Where to find Fortbyte #28 – “Solve the Pattern Match Puzzle Outside a Desert Junkyard”

The desert junkyard can be found south east of Paradise Palms, and the puzzle is on the easternmost side behind one of the sheds.

To solve the puzzle you’ll need to earn a score of four. To do so, you’ll need to get your short term memory whirring.

The tiles will blink in a certain sequence. Sometimes they’ll blink once, sometimes twice. Eventually they’ll stop blinking. You’ll need to remember the exact order in which the tiles blinked and hit them with your pickaxe accordingly.

Get the sequence right four times and you’ll unlock the Fortbyte.

Where to find Fortbyte #30 – “Found Somewhere Between Haunted Hills and Pleasant Park”

This Fortbyte can be found between the two mountains separating Haunted Hills and Pleasant Park. It’s right next to a couple of trees, and thankfully it’s pretty easy to spot when you’re coming in for landing.

Where to find Fortbyte #31 – “Found within the Dusty Divot meteor site overlook”

This one’s nice and easy to find, just head to the building that overlooks the meteor crater at Dusty Divot and you’ll soon find the Fortbyte inside.

Where to find Fortbyte #33 – “Foun at a location hidden within Loading Screen 10”

This Fortbyte can be found inside the small shed west of Lonely Lodge. It has a burnt our bonfire and a doghouse just outside it.

Where to find Fortbyte #34 – “Found Between a Fork and Knife”

This Fortbyte can be found in the underground passage between the fork and knife north west of Fatal Fields.

Where to find Fortbyte #36 – “Accessible by Sentinel on a Frozen Island”

For this Fortbyte, you’ll first need to equip the Sentinel outfit. Next, you’ll want to land on the icy island directly north of Frosty Flights (the smallest of the two).

Approach the south east of the island you’ll spot a hologram of the Fortbyte itself. Interact with it and you’ll have it in your collection!

Where to find Fortbyte #37 – “Found Inside a Disaster Bunker Basement in Pleasant Park”

This Fortbyte is located in the northernmost house in Pleasant Park. Head down into the basement bunker and you’ll soon spot it.

Where to find Fortbyte #38 – “Accessible with the Vendetta Outfit at the Northern Most Sky Platform”

The Vendetta outfit is unlocked at tier 100 of the Season 9 Battle Pass. Once you’ve unlocked it, go ahead and equip it before you jump into a match.

You’ll find this Fortbyte at the Sky Platform south west of Lazy Lagoon. It’s just inside the square metal compartment at the top of the platform itself. Smash through the metal framework and you’ll spot it right away.

Where to find Fortbyte #40 – “Accessible with the Demi Outfit on a Sundial in the Desert”

First you’ll need to equip the Demi Outfit which is unlocked at tier 87 of the Season 9 Battle Pass.

The Sundial can be found north west of Paradise Palms, on a hill directly north of the gas station leading out of the desert.

Simply land on the hill and you’ll spot the Fortbyte soon enough.

Where to find Fortbyte #41 – “Accessible by Using Tomato Head Emoticon inside Durrburger”

The Durrburger restaurant can be found in right in the centre of Neo Tilted. Head inside and you’ll find the Fortbyte behind the counter, on the ground floor. Use your Tomato Head Emoticon next to it and it’ll be yours to nab.

Where to find Fortbyte #43 – “Accessible by Wearing the Nana Cape Back Bling inside a Banana Stand”

To get this Fortbyte, you’ll need to equip the Nana Cape which is unlocked once you’ve added 40 Fortbytes to your collection.

Next, visit Peely’s Banana Stand in the south side of Neo Tilted and you’ll find the Fortbyte inside.

This Fortbyte’s quite tricky to find as it’s stashed away in the middle of some woods north east of Lazy Lagoon.

Where to find Fortbyte #48 – “Accessible by Using the Vox Piackaxe to Smash the Gnome Beside a Mountain Top Throne”

You’ll first need to equip the Vox Pickaxe which is unlocked at tier 55 of the Season 9 Battle Pass.

Next, you can find this Fortbyte on top of the mountain just north east of Happy Hamlet. Right next to the toilet you’ll see a gnome. Smash it with your pickaxe and grab the Fortbyte.

Where to find Fortbyte #49 – “Found in Trog’s Ice Cave”

This Fortbyte is located in Trog’s Cave south east of Frosty Flights. Head to the map marker we’ve posted below and drop down into the cavern, you’ll find the Fortbyte inside a wooden shack.

Where to find Fortbyte #50 – “Accessible inside mountain top castle ruins”

Make your way to Haunted Hills then look for the open top fortress on top of the nearby mountain. In one of the interior sections you’ll see the Fortbyte nestled in a corner.

Where to find Fortbyte #51 – “Accessible by using the Cluck Strut to Cross the Road in Front of Peely’s Banana Stand”

First you’ll need to equip the Cluck Strut emote which is unlocked at tier 31 of the Season 9 Battle Pass.

Head to the southwestern side of Neo Tilted (Peely’s stand is just south of the “N” in “Neo”) and use the Cluck Strut emote on the nearby zebra crossing. If done successfully, the Fortybyte will appear in the centre of the crossing, so snap it up when it emerges.

Where to find Fortbyte #52 – “Accessible with Bot Spray Inside a Robot Factory”

First you’ll need to equip the Bot Spray which is unlocked at tier 85 of the Season 9 Battle Pass.

Head to south eastern side of the Pressure Plant and you’ll find a robot is being built there.

The Fortbyte can be found on the ground floor, right next to a stairwell. Use the Bot Spray right next to it and you’ll be able to pick it up right away.

Where to find Fortbyte #53 – “Accessible by by Helping to Raise the Disco Ball at Abandoned Mountain Top Villain’s Lair”

Before you head into a match, you’ll want to recruit a friend to help you with this Fortbyte.

Head to the mountain north east of Snobby Shores and aim to land right inside its core via the east side.

You’ll enter the villain’s lair and see the Fortbyte directly ahead. Both of you need to take up positions on either side of the disco ball and dance at the same time. This will raise the disco ball to the top, and the Fortbyte will unlock.

Where to find Fortbyte #55 – “Found within Haunted Hills”

To grab this Fortbyte, you want to land near the big church in Haunted Hills. Imagine you’ve just walked outside the main entrance, turn right, go down the slope and into the first little stone building to your right.

When inside, turn left and left again. The Fortybyte will be awaiting you in the corner.

Where to find Fortbyte #58 – “Accessible by Using the Sad Trombone Emote at the North End of Snobby Shores”

First things first, you’ll need to equip the Sad Trombone emote which is unlocked at tier 46 of the Season 9 Battle Pass.

Next, head to the northernmost makeshift fort at Snobby Shores and you’ll find the Fortbyte sitting in the main entrance.

Where to find Fortbyte #59 – “Accessible with Durrr! Emoji Inside Pizza Pit Restaurant”

To access this Fortbyte you’ll need to equip the Durrr! Emoji which us unlocked at tier 53 of the Season 9 Battle Pass.

The Pizza Pit restaurant can be found in the Mega Mall complex, on the first floor. Head inside, jump over the counter, turn left and you’ll spot it on the floor. Simply use the Durrr! Emoji next to it and you’ll be free to pick it up.

Where to find Fortbyte #60 – “Accessible with Sign Spinner Emote in Front of the Happy Oink restaurant”

To get hold of this Fortbyte, you’ll first need to equip the Sign Spinner Emote which is unlocked at tier 63 of the Season 9 Battle Pass.

Next, you’ll need to visit the Happy Oink restaurant located in Happy Hamlet. As you come in for landing, keep an eye out for red and white striped awnings. Head inside and you’ll spot the Fortbyte behind the corner. Use the emote next to it and you’ll be able to pick it up.

Where to find Fortbyte #61 – “Accessible by Using Sunbird Spray on a Frozen Waterfall”

Before you head into a match, you’ll need to equip the Sunbird Spray which is unlocked at tier 25 of the Season 9 Battle Pass.

Next, you’ll need to use the Sunbird Spray on the waterfall nearest the Viking Camp.

The Fortbyte will appear once you’ve done so.

Where to find Fortbyte #62 – “Accessible with the Stratus Outfit Within an Abandoned Mansion”

First, equip the Stratus Outfit which is unlocked at tier 71 of the Season 9 Battle Pass.

Next, head to the abandoned mansion south east of Lonely Lodge. The Fortbyte is located inside the garage.

Where to find Fortbyte #63 – “Found Somewhere Between Fatal Fields and Lucky Landing”

This Fortbyte can be found at the gas station along the road, north of Lucky Landing.

Where to find Fortbyte #64 – “Accessible by Rox on top of Stunt Mountain”

Before you jump into game, make sure you equip the Rox skin first.

Next, you’ll want to land on top of Stunt Mountain, located north of the football pitch and north west of Neo Tilted.

The Fortbyte will be waiting by the signpost, just outside the circle of trees.

Where to find Fortbyte #65 – “Found in a Basement Budget Movie Set”

To the north of Shifty Shafts you’ll find two houses along the road. Head into the one with a blue car parked outside it.

Proceed into the basement ad you’ll find the Fortbyte resting on the wall near the green screen.

Where to find Fortbyte #67 – “Accessible by Flying Retaliator Glider Through the Rings Under Southern Sky Platform”

Equip the Retaliator Glider which is unlocked at tier 79 of the Season 9 Battle Pass.

Next, deploy your glider above the Sky Platform located south of Salty Springs and fly through the rings which will appear in the sky to collect your Fortbyte.

Where to find Fortbyte #68 – “Found within a Snowy Town Book Shop”

You’ll find this Fortbyte inside the book shop in Happy Hamlet, it’s on the north side of town.

You’ll find this Fortbyte inside the Stone Pig, located towards the very south of the map, east of Lucky Landing.

Where to find Fortbyte #70 – “Accessible by Skydiving Through Rings Above Lazy Lagoon with Vibrant Contrails”

First, equip the Vibrant Contrail which is unlocked at tier 27 of the Season 9 Battle Pass.

Next, float through all the rings above lazy lagoon and a Fortbyte ring will appear. Fly through it to collect the Fortbyte.

Where to find Fortbyte #72 – “Found within Salty Springs”

Aim to land in the north side of Salty Springs, above the “P” in “Springs”.

As you near the ground, keep an eye out for a crashed red car surrounded by safety barriers. Destroy the red car with your pickaxe and the Fortbyte will be yours.

Where to find Fortbyte #74 – “Found in a filing cabinet inside an assassin’s basement on the desert coast”

Make your way to the fancy pad directly east Paradise Palms.

On the ground floor there’s a corridor with a large painting hanging at the end of it. To the left of this painting is a door, crack it open, head down the steps and you’ll spot a filing cabinet. Smash it open to add the Fortbyte to your collection.

This Fortbyte can be found in the westernmost hangar in Frosty Flights. It’s tucked in the corner closest to the door.

Where to find Fortbyte #76 – “Found Behind a Historical Diorama in an Insurance Building”

This Fortbyte can be found in the large central building of Neo Tilted, behind the historical diorama.

Head in through the main entrance, turn right and you’ll spot what looks like a cardboard cut out of a tent. Smash through it with your pickaxe and you’ll find the Fortbyte tucked behind it.

Where to find Fortbyte #78 – “Found within a Ranger Tower Overlooking a Drained Lake”

You’ll find this Fortbyte inside the wooden ranger tower to the north of Loot Lake, by the small pier.

Head to the track that’s north-east of Paradise Palms. The Fortbyte can be found inside the taco shop that’s just south of the main track car park.

Where to find Fortbyte #79 – “Found within an Arcade”

For this Fortbyte, you’ll need to head over to the centre of Mega Mall which is located north west of Paradise Palms.

Head to the first floor and search for the Arcade. The Fortbyte is located just behind the small counter.

Where to find Fortbyte #80 – “Accessible by Using Bunker Basher to Smash Rock at Volcano Rim”

First things first, you’ll need to reach tier 38 of the Battle Pass to unlock the Bunker Basher pickaxe.

Make sure you’ve got the Bunker Basher equipped and head on over to the north east side f the Volcano’s rim. Try and track down the small rock perched on the edge and break it with the hammer to unveil the Fortbyte.

Where to find Fortbyte #81 – “Accessible in the daytime near a Mountain Top Cactus Wedge”

Before we get started, this Fortbyte is only accessible when it’s daytime. Thankfully Fortnite’s day-night cycle is pretty snappy, so you shouldn’t need to wait very long to collect the Fortbyte.

This Fortbyte can be found to the southeast of Paradise Palms, on the large hill top which features five cacti in a V/L shape (depending on which angle you come in to land, of course), and a set of animal bones.

The Fortbyte is tucked away inside the set of bones, so all you need to do is land on top of the hill and interact with them as soon as you hit the ground.

Where to find Fortbyte #82 – “Accessible by solving the pressure plate puzzle NW of The Block”

First up, you’ll need to be in a party of three others players in order to complete this challenge. Otherwise, it’s a case of getting lucky with three other enemies or randoms and working together.

To find this Fortbyte, you’ll need to head to the large clump of trees north west of The Block. When you arrive, you’ll find three pressure plates surrounding the Fortbyte.

All three players will need to stand on the pressure plates at the same time. The Fortybyte will then rise from the middle and you’ll be able to collect it.

Where to find Fortbyte #83 – “Found in a Rock Garden Near the Coast”

This Fortbyte can be found north east of Lonely Lodge, in the rock garden on the cliff edge. It looks like a rectangular patch of dirt on the minimap.

As you come in to land, look out for a hill with a lovely little rock garden in the centre of it. The Fortbyte can be found on the edge of the garden, next to the large rock statue.

Where to find Fortbyte #88 – “Found Somewhere within the Map”

This Fortbyte’s pretty tricky to find as it spawns in a randomised location within map square J3.

Youtuber HarryNinetyFour found their Fortbyte near a triangular rock formation south east of Sunny Steps, north of the house closest to the cliff edge.

We ended up finding our Fortbyte in a completely different location, albeit pretty close to HarryNinetyFour’s. It was just north of their location, near a cluster of trees.

There’s nothing for it but to search around map square J3, but we’d recommend starting off your hunt by visiting these two locations first to narrow things down a bit.

Where to find Fortbyte #89 – “Accessible by Flying the Scarlet Strike Glider Through the Rings East of Snobby Shores”

For this Fortbyte to appear on the map, you’ll need to equip the Scarlet Strike Glider which is unlocked at tier 39 of the Season 9 Battle Pass.

Simply fly through all the rings east of Snobby Shores to get this Fortbyte.

Where to find Fortbyte #91 – “Found at a location hidden within Loading Screen 4”

This Fortbyte can be found in an ATM machine just outside the Keyboard King store in central Paradise Palms.

Where to find Fortbyte #92 – “Accessible by using the Rock Love Spray near a Lavafall”

First up, make sure you equip the Rock Love Spray in the Locker. It’s unlocked at tier two of the free Battle Pass so you’ll likely have unlocked it already. Don’t worry if you haven’t, a few quick games will remedy that.

As the name suggests, you’ll need to land on the northernmost – and largest – rock in the lava fall.

When you’re coming in for landing, keep an eye out for the Fortbyte as well, it should be just over a slight overhang on the rock itself.

Next, simply spray Rock Love at your feet and the Fortbyte will be yours to interact with!

Where to find Fortbyte #94 – “Accessible by using Scarlet Scythe to Smash Blue Canoe Under Frozen Lake”

The Scarlet Scythe is unlocked once you’ve collected 70 Fortbytes.

The blue canoe can be found underneath the frozen lake north of Polar Peak.

First, you’ll need to land on the large black panels in the centre of the lake, smash through the them and drop down. The canoe is on the wall, so hit it with your pickaxe to reveal the hidden Fortbyte behind it.

Where to find Fortbyte #95 – “Found at a Solar Panel Array in the Jungle”

You’ll find this Fortbyte east of the Volcano Vents towards the top of the map.

Land on the solar panels’ side and you’ll see the Fortbyte resting on the ground nearby.

Where to find Fortbyte #97 – “Found at a location hidden within Loading Screen 8”

This Fortbyte can be found inside the gym in northern Lucky Landing. Head inside, go up the stairs and you’ll spot the Fortbyte beside the weights rack.

Where to find Fortbyte #98 – “Found Within a Viking Longhouse”

This Fortbyte can be found inside the viking longhouse situated in the viking village, southeast of Snobby Shores.

The longhouse is the largest building in the village. Simply head inside and you’ll soon spot it next to one of the benches.

Where to find Fortbyte #100 – “Found on the Highest Floor of the Tallest Building in Neo Tilted”

As the name suggests, head to the top of the tallest building in Neo Tilted. It’s the one with the radio tower encircled by a spinning banana hologram.
