Overload Shaman (Standard) deck list and guide – May 2016 – Hearthstone

0

Our guide to winning more games with Overload Shaman in Season 26.

Our Galakrond Overload Shaman deck list guide features the best Ashes of Outland deck list for Season 73 of Hearthstone (April 2020). Our Overload Shaman guide also contains Mulligan advice, card combos and strategy tips.

Overload Shaman is a Hearthstone deck that’s started to make a bit of a comeback in the current meta, thanks to the inclusion of some new cards that play specifically into this mechanic. By spending a little of tomorrow’s Mana today, you hope to gain an advantage on the board that will ultimately prove overwhelming for the opponent.

We’ve got a few fancy new toys in Ashes of Outland too, so it’s well worth giving this deck another shot to take advantage of the aggressive potential it holds.

Lady Vashj is an exciting addition to this deck, and Vashj Prime lets you draw out those Overload aggro spells.

Overload Shaman Mulligan guide

These are the cards you’ll want to search for in your opening hand:

  • 1. Sludge Slurper: Lackey value is always useful in the opening stages of the game, but you’ll need to plan around the bonus token minion you get from this character.
  • 2. Surging Tempest functions as a 1 mana 2/3 if you can get it played on turn 1 with an Overload as a followup. It’s also pretty solid alongside Earthen Might if you draw into it.
  • 3. EVIL Totem: You want those Lackeys every turn if possible, and your opponent has to dedicate resources to getting rid of it.

General strategy

Your target when playing Overload Shaman is to hit the board early and pressurise your opponent before they have a chance to respond. You’re looking to flood the board with minions early on and deal big damage with a bunch of small minions.

Early Game: Surging Tempest and Sludge Slurper are both excellent early plays, as they get you on the board and ready to contest. Following a Surging Tempest up with Voltaic Burst or Earthen Might gives your opponent something to worry about and forces an answer to come out, and sometimes they won’t have one.

Lackeys are a fairly large part of your gameplan, activating Weaponized Wasp, and acting as great targets for Faceless Corruptor. Zap! is a significant Overload activator for later-game plays, considering its 0 mana cost and ease of use, but be careful not to Overload so much you can’t play anything next turn.

Mid Game: Your mid-game plays are where the real magic happens. Squallhunter is a 4 mana 5/7 with Spell Damage +2, which buffs your Zap! And offers excellent stats for turn 4. Thunderhead gives you constant value whenever you Overload too, meaning you’ll be able to take down enemy minions with the Rush minions it summons as well as beef up your board in preparation for buffing plays.

Once you’ve got a few minions sticking onto the board, it’s time to make them big and strong. Storm’s Wrath can be played even before you’re planning on attacking, since the +1/+1 buff sticks around, but if you have a few minions ready to attack, Vessina and Bloodlust can be the finishing blows you need.

Late Game: Ideally, you’ve sealed the win early on. You have some big plays if you desperately need that one last push though. Cumulo-Maximus and Vessina can help you find that final push of damage though, and Vashj Prime will draw out a few spells and discount them – sometimes that’s all you need to finish the game.

Overload Shaman tips, combos and synergies

Chances are you’ve not played around with Overload Shaman for a while, so we’ll run you through all of the most critical card combos that exist in this particular version of the deck:

Cumulo-Maximus deals 5 damage to anything, meaning you can go face with it as long as you’ve Overloaded enough.

– Cards that activate when you’re Overloaded actually work for two turns per Overload. For example, if you play Likkim and Zap on the same turn, Likkim will have +2 attack for both the initial turn and the turn on which you suffer the Overload penalty.

Vashj Prime lets you both draw 3 spells, but discounts them all by 3 Mana, as well as offering +1 Spell Damage. With something like Lava Burst as a possibility, you could secure the win then and there.

Serpentshrine Portal is a fantastic card for dealing with enemy minions, as well as going face. Remember, it benefits from Lady Vashj‘s Spell Damage, as well as activating your Overload synergies.
