PUBG: Best firing mode (PC, Xbox One)

0

Our PUBG guide to the best firing mode in the game contains tips and strategy advice on when to use different firing modes to win any firefight.

Almost every weapon in PUBG has a different set of firing modes. You can choose to fire bullets in single, burst or auto modes, and switching between them drastically alters how a gun feels. Shooting one round at a time in single shot allows for control, whereas auto can lay down huge amounts of damage – although you’ll have to learn how to handle the kick.

It can be difficult to decide which firing mode offers the best benefits in any given situation but it’s something that you’ll need to master if you want to improve your chances of securing those all-important Chicken Dinners.

To help you get to grips with each firing mode, we’ve put together a guide below that’ll provide you with tips on when to activate them, and ways to maximise your efficiency with each type.

Make sure you visit our core PUBG Guide hub when you’re done here. It contains a whole host of important articles that’ll help improve your game.

What firing modes are there?

Here’s a breakdown of all the firing modes in the game, with a brief overview of how they work.

  • Single – Fires one round per shot.
  • Burst – Fires three rounds per shot.
  • Auto – Fires rounds continuously until the trigger is released.

You’ll know when a gun has a different firing mode as it’ll be marked at the bottom-centre of your HUD. Pressing the [B] key or [Left Arrow D-Pad] on Xbox One will change the firing mode.

More often than not, different firing modes can be selected on Assault Rifles and Submachine Guns. However, there are exceptions to this rule. Some Snipers and Pistols can be fired in full auto!

Firing mode tips and tricks

Here’s a list of tips to help you determine which firing mode suits certain situations, and how to properly utilise each one in battle.

Single

  • The default firing mode for every weapon you pick up in the game.
  • It’ll fire one round with every trigger pull. This makes it the best firing mode for landing precision shots.
  • We recommend using this firing mode when shooting enemies at a distance as it promotes patient, steady shooting.
  • You can quickly tap the trigger to increase the fire rate, but prepare to swipe your mouse downwards to counteract the recoil.
  • It’s not advised to use this firing mode when heading into close quarters fights or breaching buildings – you simply won’t have the fire rate to drop enemies quickly.

Burst

  • This firing mode isn’t present on many weapons and you’re most likely to encounter it when equipping an M16A4 Assault Rifle or UMP9 Submachine Gun.
  • We only recommend using this firing mode when wielding the M16A4 – the only Assault Rifle which doesn’t have a full auto option. This is because in almost every situation where you need the extra fire rate, firing in full auto comes out on top.
  • Firing burst on the M16A4 can be devastating, especially as its fire rate in this is capable of out-damaging that of every other Assault Rifle in the game. Use it in close-quarters scenarios to shred enemies!

Auto

  • Easily our most favoured firing mode, switching to full auto should be a habit you try and develop the more you play. Why? You can fire in single mode with a tap of the trigger, before unleashing a hail of bullets by holding it down. It’s the best of both worlds.
  • When firing in full auto do be aware that the recoil can catch you off guard. Pull down the mouse hard when shooting to control the weapon.
  • We don’t recommend spraying an entire clip unless you’re well practiced at doing so. It’s more efficient to fire off a few bullets at a time, letting the recoil reset, and then spraying again. This will give you a better chance of landing every shot, as after 5 or more rounds the recoil can sway from side to side and upset your rhythm.
  • Full auto comes into its own when you’re facing enemies at short to medium ranges. Hit all your shots and enemies won’t stand a chance!
