Clan Redeem uses controversial exploit to claim world-first in Destiny 2’s Prestige raid

It allowed clan members to replenish their heavy ammo almost instantly.

Clan Redeem has become the first in the world to beat Destiny 2’s Prestige Leviathan Raid, but have used a controversial “Coil Glitch” exploit in order to do so.

Bungie announced the news that clan Redeem had completed the Prestige Raid in a staggering 1 hour and 6 minutes on Twitter, beating their nearest rival by a margin of just 4 minutes.

It wasn’t long, however, before members of the Destiny 2 community picked up on clan Redeem’s use of a “Coil Glitch” during the Prestige Raid’s final encounter. Twitter user “imshoobie” was quick to post footage of one clan member clearly saying “I’m coil glitching” during their live stream of the run.

The so-called “Coil Glitch” is named after the Exotic weapon Wardcliff Coil which allows a player to replenish their ammunition in an almost instantaneous manner. Redditor “Harbysaurus” explains that players who pick up a single block of heavy ammo with the Wardcliff Coil, before switching quickly to another heavy weapon will have their ammunition completely refilled.

Clan Redeem’s use of the exploit was quickly picked up on the Destiny 2 subreddit, with many in the community questioning whether it gave them an unfair advantage which undermiend the achievement. One post in particular by “Papalockratin” gained such an overwhelming response that Bungie community manager Cozmo felt compelled to issue an official response to the controversy.

”We have seen the reports that an ammo exploit was used today in the Prestige Raid,” he begins. “This was not the specific exploit we were checking for and we don’t currently have the ability to detect it. Tomorrow we will release the top 3 finishers in the TWAB. You can make your own decision as to who should be celebrated.”

Bungie initially delayed the release of the Prestige Raid when its internal tests discovered an exploit that caused Raid encounters to be stripped of their intended challenge. Whether this relates to the Wardcliff Coil exploit is not known.
