Destiny 2: Activision promises a steadier stream of new content for sequel

More studios are working with Bungie this time around, including Vicarious Visions and High Moon.

Destiny 2 players shouldn’t have to put up with the lengthy content gaps they endured with the original game, according to publisher Activision. Content for Bungie’s online FPS sequel sounds like it will be coming more regularly.

Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg spoke of Destiny’s content problems in a recent interview with GamesIndustry.

“I have not been happy with the cadence [of new content]. We got a lot right with Destiny 1, but one of the things we didn’t do was keep up with the demand for new content,” said Hirshberg.

”I feel like that, as great as The Dark Below, House of Wolves, The Taken King and Rise of Iron all are, clearly there was appetite for more.”

To keep up with player demand for more content, Activision has enlisted some of its own AAA developers to work with Bungie.

“One of the things you’ll see post the launch of Destiny 2, is that we have got additional AAA developers from inside the Activision ecosystem working with Bungie on Destiny content, including Vicarious Visions and High Moon. That will allow us to keep an even more robust pipeline of content in the ecosystem,” Hirshberg added.

The original Destiny was released in September 2014 and had four main expansion packs. The first, The Dark Below, was released only a few months after launch, although players had to wait just over a year for the next couple of DLC packs – not to mention another twelve months for the very last expansion, Rise of Iron.

Granted, Bungie established a quicker content turnaround as the game matured, but not enough DLC was released to keep players interested in the Destiny universe from the outset. With Activision bolstering Bungie’s development power, we’re excited to see how much content is put out for Destiny 2 following its release.

Destiny 2 releases on 6th September 2017 for PS4 and Xbox One, with the PC version expected to launch on 24th October 2017.
