Destiny 2: Titan Sentinel guide – Abilities, skill tree, Super, passives

0

All you need to know about the Titan Sentinel subclass in Destiny 2.

Our Titan Sentinel guide contains all of the subclass’s abilities, passive abilities, grenades, barricades and other upgrades.

Titans are the bulky bruisers of Destiny 2, utilising their brute strength and defensive capabilities in order to punish enemies and protect allies. Specialists at wearing heavy armour, Titans aren’t afraid to throw themselves into the thick of battle, and the Sentinel subclass in Destiny 2 is perfect for those who want to lead the party’s charge.

Having bashed numerous enemies with our shield, we’ve brought together everything we know about how the Titan Sentinel’s abilities and skills work. We’ve made sure that every section in this article helps you become a better Sentinel in both PVE and PVP scenarios so you can get the one up on your opponents.

Once you’re done soaking up information on the Sentinel subclass, it’s worth checking out our Subclass guide to get up to speed on every other archetype in the game. For a comprehensive look at everything in Destiny 2, our Destiny 2 guide is the place to turn – it’s got all you could ever want in one place.

Editor’s UPDATE #8: Just below we’ve added in a brand new section that highlights one of the best skill trees for crowd control purposes. Of course, we’ll continue updating this page as we get some more hands on time with the Titan Sentinel so keep an eye on this article for more!

Become an unstoppable shield-flinger

If you’re obsessed with chucking your shield at enemies and watching it disintegrate them as it ricochets all over the place – then we’ve got the perfect piece of advice.

Go down the Code of the Aggressor skill tree and prepare to throw your shield like there’s no tomorrow. It’s all thanks to brilliant synergy between two different skills, “Superior Arsenal” and “Second Shield”. The former replenishes grenade energy if you’ve manage to eliminate enemies with them, but this also applies to your Sentinel Shield throws too! The latter does what it says on the tin and gives you an extra free charge.

With both of these skills combined, the more enemies you eliminate with your shield the more you’ll extend the time you’ve got to use your Super. It can get to the point where you’re throwing 6 or more shields into mobs of enemies!

We highly recommend equipping this skill tree for crowd control purposes and it’s fantastic for PVE content in particular. You’ll be unstoppable in Strike and the Raid.

The best grenade for PVP

More often than not, you’ll choose a grenade based on the damage it does to opponents. While this applies to all the other classes, the Titan Sentinel has access to one grenade we believe is completely overlooked.

While it may not deliver a ton of damage in PVP, the Suppression Grenade is by far your best choice when going up against other players in the Crucible (strictly PVP, not PVE mind). It’s so strong because it has the ability to stop enemies from using any of their abilities for a whole 10 seconds – this includes jumping too.

What’s more incredible is its ability to shut down an enemy who’s in Super form. Chuck it at the feet of a Titan Striker in Fists of Havoc form and it’ll instantly put a stop to their time in Super mode. There’s no other ability in Destiny 2 with this sort of power, so it’s essential that you go ahead and equip this grenade for your PVP pursuits. You’ll be the bane of the enemy team!

How to master the Titan Sentinel’s Super

Below we’ve embedded one of the best video’s we’ve seen on how to dominate your opponents with the Titan Sentinel’s, Sentinel Shield ability. It’s filled with tips and ways to optimise how much damage you deal against enemies, making it particularly handy for both PVP and PVE scenarios.

We’ve also put together a very brief outline of what’s mentioned in the video just underneath it for those who’d prefer to quickly glance over the details. Trust us, it’s worth watching for some extra useful tips.

  • When you activate your Super ability, try and go airborne as this is where your abilities come into their own and give you more options.
  • On the ground, your shield lunge ability takes 3 swings. In the air it only takes 2 button presses.
  • Remember to hop in the air when throwing your shield as it gives you better angles of attack.
  • We recommend putting up your shield when closing a rather lengthy gap between you and an opponent. It’s also worth noting that blocking incoming damage will generate Orbs of Light for your allies.

What can Sentinel Shield block?

All of the information on shield-blocking below comes courtesy of this Reddit thread.

Sentinel Shield is really strong – so strong in fact, that it’s able to block every Super Ability in Destiny 2.

Although the Sentinel Shield is able to soak up everything that’s thrown at it, you’ll still have to pay attention to one important factor – your Super bar.

Here are the ins and outs of shield blocking:

  • You can block any and all super hits directed at your shield, as long as you have enough Super energy of your own to take the hit.
  • Each time your shield takes damage from an enemy Super, your own Super bar is depleted by a pretty huge chunk.
  • If your shield takes damage while your Super bar is heavily depleted, your Titan will enter a knockback animation which lasts for around one second. In this animation you’re unable to defend yourself, so be careful!
  • Do bear in mind that this shield block doesn’t give you complete immunity as you’ll still vulnerable if attacked from behind.

Super Ability: Sentinel Shield

  • Press [L1+R1] to summon a shield of Void Light. While Sentinel Shield is active, press [R1] to attack. Hold [L2] to guard. Press [L1] to preform a Shield Throw.

Make sure you check out our Super guide for more tips and tricks on how to master the Titan Sentinel’s Sentinel Shield ability.

Code of the Aggressor

  • Shield Bash: After sprinting for a short time, use this Melee Ability to unleash a devastating Shielf Bash that disorients enemies.
  • Superior Arsenal: Grenade kills recharge your Grenade energy.
  • In the Trenches: Kills while surrounded by enemies reduce the cooldown of your Super.
  • Second Shield: Gain an additional Shield Throw charge while Sentinel Shield is active.

Code of the Protector

  • Defensive Strike: Kill an enemy with this Melee Ability to create an overshield around you and nearby allies.
  • Rallying Force: Melee kills restore Health for you and nearby allies.
  • Turn the Tide: Your Overshield from Defensive Strike lasts longer and increases melee damage and reload speed.
  • Ward of Dawn: When Super energy is full, press and hold [L1+R1] to create a shielding dowme to protect you and your allies.

Grenades

  • Magnetic Grenade: A grenade that attaches to enemies and explodes twice.
  • Voidwall Grenade: A grenade that creates a horizontal wall of burning void light.
  • Suppressor Grenade: An explosive grenade that prevents enemies from using abilities for a short time.

Barricades

There are two types of barricade associated with the Titan class.

  • Towering Barricade: A large barrier that can be used for cover, or to seal off dangerous areas for a short time.
  • Rallying Barricade: A small barrier you can peek over while aiming down sights. Instantly reloads your equipped weapon when you take cover.

Jumps

  • High Life: Jump while airborne to activate Lift and launch into the air at greater heights.
  • Strafe Lift: Jump while airborne to activate Lift and launch into the air with strong directional control.
  • Catapult Lift: Jump while airborne to activate Lift and launch into the air with a strong initial burst of momentum.
