Destiny 2: Festival of the Lost won’t be back this year
Instead we'll be getting The Dawning.
There will be no Festival of the Lost event in Destiny 2 this year.
Bungie’s community manager DeeJ confirmed the news in response to a tweet directly asking if players could expect the original game’s Halloween-themed festivities to return this year.
We’ve embedded the Twitter exchange below.
No, Sir. We may see it again someday but Season 1 has been about launch and ritual activation. The first event for Destiny 2 is The Dawning.

Festival of the Lost has been an annual event ever since the original Destiny launched in 2014. With Halloween right around the corner, player speculation had been mounting about the prospect of Destiny 2’s first spooky event making its appearance.
Traditionally, Festival of the Lost dressed up Destiny’s social spaces in a Halloween theme and added all sorts of cosmetic items and collectibles to the game. Bungie even introduced special quests and Exotic weapon ornaments into the mix too. No such celebration for 2017 though.
While it looks as though players will have to wait until at least next year for the return of Festival of the Lost, The Dawning will be arriving at the end of this year to bring some Christmas cheer to Destiny 2’s universe.
We know that there will be all sorts of shaders, emblems and armour sets to collect when the event goes live, and you can find out more about what’s in store in our Season 2 guide.
