Overwatch easter egg hidden in Destiny 2’s Iron Banner event
Get 20 kills without dying and Lord Saladin loses his composure.
An amusing Overwatch Easter egg has been discovered in Destiny 2’s Iron Banner player-versus-player (PVP) event.
If a player manages to earn the “We Ran Out of Medals” medal in Destiny 2’s Iron Banner by defeating 20 enemies without dying, the announcer Lord Saladin delivers Reaper’s “Die, die, die!” voiceline (thanks, Eurogamer).
If you’re unfamiliar with the Overwatch character’s voiceline, it’s triggered when you activate his Ultimate ability. We’ve embedded a video below which shows it in action.
Lord Saladin is the main announcer in the Iron Banner PVP event and it was during one such session that YouTuber Wayne Ng discovered that getting the “We Ran Out of Medals” medal causes Saladin to lose composure and switch characters temporarily.
Not only does Saladin drop Reaper’s voiceline, he also follows it up with an amusing conversation with Destiny 2’s main Crucible leader, Lord Shaxx. Here’s the transcript:
”DIE! DIE! DIE – uh, sorry. I’ve, uh, I’ve been watching too many Iron Banner matches. What time is it? Shaxx? Shaxx, are you there? Can you get me a water? Stop yelling; it’s just a question. I’M NOT OLD.”
It’s a great find and one which isn’t entirely surprising when you look at the people and publishers behind each game. Reaper and Lord Saladin both share the same voice actor – Keith Ferguson – while Destiny 2 and Overwatch are both published by Activision.
All in all we really like this kind of fun addition to Destiny 2, and we’d welcome more neat Easter Eggs like this in future updates. Let us know which is your favourite in the comments!
