Ashe: Warmother comic announced for League of Legends
Learn more about the origins of the popular LOL champion
Riot Games and Marvel Comic are teaming up to create a graphic novel that focuses on the origin story of League of Legends champion Ashe.
Titled Ashe: Warmother, the publication was announced by both companies in a joint statement this morning. Little is known about the venture beyond its focus on her story as tribal leader in the Freljord region.
Ashe has been something of a posterchild for the game since it launched, and so it seems like a natural choice for the collaboration. Other characters have been explored by Riot alone in the past, however, in the form of online comics.
Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski had this to say about the news:
“League of Legends is one of the most well-known games in the industry, and their unique world and extensive roster of rich characters are a perfect fit for comics.”
Greg Street, Riot’s Head of Creative Development, also had a statement to accompany the announcement:
“We see similarities between the League of Legends Universe and the Marvel Universe, as both of them feature an array of characters with compelling and diverse backgrounds.
“Marvel’s success at developing a world through comics and creating great stories is industry-defining, and we’re thrilled to be working with them to bring our own stories to life.”
Ashe: Warmother will be released in May next year and has been written by Odin Austin Shafer of Riot Games. Artwork will be provided by Nina Vakueva.
