NA and EU teams secure historic League of Legends 2018 semi-finals spots
No one could have predicted this.
G2, fnatic, Cloud 9 and Invictus Gaming have made it through to the semi-finals of the League of Legends World Championships 2018.
Each team will enter a best of 5 match until two teams remain and advance to the grand finals.
Here’s the order of play for the upcoming semi-finals matches:
- SF1: G2 vs IG (Saturday, October 27th)
- SF2: C9 vs FNC (Sunday, October 28th)

This makes for a historic semi-finals line up as the majority of teams aren’t from Asia, but hail from the West instead. Perhaps most shocking of all, a Korean team won’t be contesting the finals, let alone the semis.
The quarter finals were marked by a string of upsets, with every underdog finding a way to beat the overwhelming favourites. Invictus found a way past the best Korean team KT Rolster, G2 scored an inspired victory against Chinese powerhouse RNG, C9 stomped another Korean team Afreeca Freecs, while fnatic knocked out the LPL’s EDG in a hard fought battle.
If there’s one takeaway from this year’s quarter finals at Worlds, it’s that the skill-gap between Asia and the West is closing significantly.
Once the semi-finals have concluded, we’ll add a news post to the homepage with all the details along with a schedule for the grand finals too!
