The news accompanies the announcement made earlier today that the EU LCS is to be rebranded as the League of Legends European Championship – or LEC for short.
The change has been made to add further separation between the European and North American leagues, which have their own individual needs and strengths.
In the official FAQ, however, Riot is keen to stress that the league format is unlikely to be changed dramatically as a result of the rebranding. You can expect some minor refinements, but details are still to be confirmed.
The LEC’s first matches have also been confirmed to begin on Friday 18th January 2019. As soon as we have more details we’ll add a post to the homepage.
