Midrange Vi Heimerdinger deck list guide – Season of Fortune – Legends of Runeterra (July 2020)

General strategy

Survive early, and quickly turn the corner when the opportunity arises. Your Champions will scare your enemy in different ways, so use them wisely.

Early game: At the beginning of the game, you won’t have a huge amount available to do. Getting a Solitary Monk or Shadow Assassin is always nice, and Mystic Shot and Thermogenic Beam are often lifesavers to stop your foe snowballing. Don’t worry too much about saving spells for Heimerdinger later – he’ll have plenty of fuel as long as you survive to that point.

Mid Game: Keep the card draw up – Deep Meditation is often a cost-effective way to get it done if you’ve cast spells the previous turn, and your Get Excited! and Twin Disciplines can both keep your units alive and simultaneously take out enemies.

If you’ve got a Vi in hand, every card you play is upgrading her attack power, so keep that going and if possible get a Heimerdinger on board. Your spells like Deny, Spirit’s Refuge, Will of Ionia and the like are now primarily there to keep Heimerdinger alive and kicking, since every time one is cast he’ll generate a unit for you to play for free.

Late Game: If you get Champions on board, now is the time to turn the corner. With an upgraded Vi, every enemy unit you attack deals damage to their Nexus too, and she’s a pain to kill thanks to Tough. Heimerdinger synergises great with Flash of Brilliance later on too, as you’ll be able to generate more expensive spells to get bigger mechs in hand. At this point in the game, you’re ideally going to be generating mountains of mechs and overwhelming the enemy on board with their stats, since it’s very hard to compete with you once your Heimerdinger is on board and giving you value. If not, you need to stay on the defensive until you can make it happen. Always keep count of lethal too – it’s easy to forget Vi’s ability to hit the enemy Nexus for 5 with each attack on an enemy unit too – this could be the difference and we’ve had plenty of opponents not realise this damage is incoming, to their dismay.

Vi Heimerdinger Midrange Mulligan guide

These are the cards you’ll want to make the best possible start with Midrange Vi Heimerdinger:

• 1. Claws of the Dragon works great alongside something like Flash of Brilliance, allowing you to summon it for free whilst getting value from spells, or just playing it out as a 2 mana 3/2 if needed.
• 2. Shadow Assassin cycles your deck and lets you both hit the enemy Nexus and block those pesky Elusive units.
• 3. Solitary Monk and cheap spells are good to keep, but it’s so important to draw Heimerdinger that you might want to keep him in your opening hand so he can hit the board ASAP.

Midrange Vi Heimerdinger tips, combos and synergies

Here’s a quick overview of a few things you might want to watch out for when you’re playing this deck.

– Thermogenic Beam will generate a mech of a power level equal to the mana you spent on it, meaning you can spend as much or as little as you want, even upgrading Heimerdinger fully with just one mech.

– Claws of the Dragon is summoned from hand if you cast 2 spells in a turn, the same bonus requirement for Deep Meditation. You can still play it as a 2 mana 3/2 though.

– Get Excited! and Mystic Shot can target the enemy Nexus, so keep that in mind when calculating lethal damage.

– Deep Meditation only costs 2 mana if you cast 2 spells on your previous turn, which also means if Heimerdinger is in play it’ll only give you a 2 power mech rather than 4.

– Solitary Monk will Recall all your allies when played, but if your board is empty it’s just an Elusive 4/3 for 3 mana which is a ridiculously good deal.

– Will of Ionia can be cast on enemies to get them off the board and prevent an attack, but remember it’ll let them replay it to gain any summoning effects it may have again.

– Heimerdinger’s summoned mechs have different abilities at different power levels. Below is a list of the power levels (and thus spell cost) of each, and the ability they have. Of course, when Heimerdinger levels up, these are all buffed by +1/+1.

• 0 – 0/1 with Challenger
• 1 – 1/1
• 2 – 2/1 with Tough
• 3 – 3/1 with Elusive
• 4 – 4/1 with Fearsome
• 5 – 5/1 with Quick Attack
• 6 – 6/1 with Overwhelm
• 7 – 7/1 with Barrier
• 8+ – 8/8+ T-Hex
