He's so cute, yet so horrid.

Our Teemo Mushroom deck list guide features the best Legends of Runeterra deck list for the open beta (February 2020). Our Teemo Mushroom guide also contains Mulligan advice, card combos and strategy tips.

If you’re looking for a rundown of the best decks Legends of Runeterra has to offer, check out our Legends of Runeterra Best Decks page!

Our Teemo Mushroom deck is a weird one to play. You’re looking to plant a huge number of Poisonous Puffcaps in your enemy’s deck in order to chip away at their health total whilst managing to stay alive by any means necessary.

It’s a difficult deck to succeed with, but don’t let that stop you from trying. Filling your opponent’s deck with shrooms and praying for a good draw is a tense yet exciting way to play, and securing the win with this deck can be hugely satisfying. Getting that final bit of damage through mushrooms when your opponent would’ve secured lethal is brutal.

A lot of luck is required to win with Teemo Mushroom though. Firstly, it’s essential you draw Teemo. Without this little fella, you barely stand a chance. In addition, he needs a lot of support and you’ll have to deal with enemy boards a whole lot early on – if you can’t deal with aggression, you’ll lose every time.

In the latest version of our Teemo Mushroom guide, we’ve got the deck list we’re using for the open beta of Legends of Runeterra.

General strategy

Your big spells and removal are vital to survival, but it’s just as important to get your foe’s deck filled up with mushrooms. Most of our wins with Teemo Mushroom have been extremely close, with our Poisonous Puffcaps finding lethal at the perfect time before we ourselves lost. Here’s what you’re looking to pull off with this deck.

Early game: If you draw Teemo early on, play him out and try to hit the enemy Nexus. Unless your opponent is playing a deck filled with Elusive units, you’ll be able to start planting mushrooms and getting on your way to buffing Teemo. Your Mystic Shot and Mist’s Call mean you can ping off enemies, whilst reviving Teemo if needed, and Black Spear could take out a foe’s Champion as soon as it’s played. You’ll often struggle against aggro if you don’t draw these spells, and even if you do, there’s often a chance for counterplay. Basically, stay alive by any means necessary and you’ll be doing better than most.

Mid game: Now is the time you should be upgrading Teemo. Planting 15 Puffcaps into your opponents deck shouldn’t take too long, especially if you’ve activated his Nexus Strike ability a couple times, and now each Nexus Strike he does will double the enemy’s shroom count. Grasp of the Undying, Trueshot Barrage and Vengeance are all solid ways to keep enemies out of your hair for as long as possible, especially if you have Spell Mana to spare. Be wary of Ionia decks though – they always seem to have a Deny in hand when you’re trying to cast a big spell.

The Rekindler revives your Teemo if one has died previously in the game, and you’re able to play it whilst Teemo is already on board. Make sure you have Teemo played before the Rekindler though, otherwise the Champion will transform in your hand into Teemo’s Mushroom Cloud. Ideally, you can get two or three onto your side of the board and hit the enemy Nexus a few times. Splinter Soul can give you even more copies, and constantly doubling the number of mushrooms in your opponent’s deck can completely destroy them if you’re able to survive long enough.

Late game: You should be finishing off your opponent by this point, with every draw dealing damage. Ideally, they’ll have at least 60 Poisonous Puffcaps in their deck to ensure a reliable source of damage, but once you get to this point and keep doubling their total, you’re pretty much home free.

Once they’re on a death timer, your only responsibility is to stay alive. Your Chump Whumps and Puffcap Peddlers are most helpful for blocking at this point, especially if you’ve got Teemo ruining the enemy’s day the entire time. Remember, you can get extra copies of him through Scribe of Sorrows (with a bit of luck) and The Rekindler, and Rhasa the Sunderer is a hugely powerful card for clearing away enemy units. For one final push on your attacking phase, it might be worth casting Splinter Soul on your Teemo too, which will give you an extra copy that’ll die after attacking, but at least he’ll double the enemy’s puffcaps once more. This is a tough deck to play, but it’s immensely satisfying watching your opponent scramble to kill you whilst they’re on a ticking time bomb of impending doom.

These are the cards you’ll want to make the best possible start with Teemo Mushroom:

  • 1. Teemo is the obvious ideal first card. Start dealing damage, planting shrooms, and generally being a nuisance as soon as possible.
  • 2. Mystic Shot can save your bacon more times than you’d expect. Dealing 2 damage to an enemy unit is of vital importance when they’re whacking a Zed on the board early, for example.
  • 3. It’s often worth keeping a Puffcap Peddler, especially if you already have a Teemo. This guy makes your Mushroom Clouds more impactful, and sets you up for upgrading Teemo much faster.

Teemo Mushroom tips, combos and synergies

Here’s an overview of the synergies to look out for in this Teemo Mushroom deck. We’ll keep you updated as the meta develops!

– You can have multiple copies of Teemo on board if you play your cards right. Make sure you play Teemo from hand before using the likes of The Rekindler, otherwise the Teemo in hand will transform into a Mushroom Cloud.

– You’ll want to make use of Black Spear when you can. This deck struggles more than others with activating this ability, so it’s usually worth pinging off a potentially dangerous enemy when you can.

– It’s often a good idea to keep hold of all your Mushroom Clouds until you have a Puffcap Peddler or two on board. Each Puffcap Peddler adds 3 extra mushrooms to every spell you cast, so you can really boost your enemy’s shroom count quickly.

– If your Teemo dies and you have extra mana to spare, it’s often worth casting Mist’s Call to get him back.

– Later on in the game, Rhasa the Sunderer can be a brilliant way to stall out your opponent. If they bring out a big ol’ Darius, Rhasa can kill him straight up as long as a friendly unit has died the same turn.

Deny is your worst enemy. Sometimes, it’s a good idea to wait until an Ionia deck has less than 3 mana to cast your big spells, but it’s often not possible. Remember they can only have three in their deck though, so baiting them out with something like Grasp of the Undying before they can use them on Vengeance can be a great help.

The Ruination kills every unit on the board, but be careful. Enemy Last Breath effects or Tryndamere’s Level Up still occur.

The Rekindler doesn’t summon anything unless Teemo has already died this game, but sometimes you’ll need any kind of board presence to deal with enemy attacks.
